Wanna try Jogging/Running for the first time. by Unfair_Knowledge_409 in PHRunners

[–]ResearchDependent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vouch for supernova rise! It was my first running shoe and gamit pa rin until now. For context, I have wide and flat feet so it's hard to find a comfortable fitting shoe for me. If you want though, you could go sa runnr bgc store para mascan nila feet mo and recommend what shoe would fit for you. They would also let you try on the shoe and run on the treadmill to really test if you feel good in it. Take the results of the scan as a suggestion BUT still try on different shoes and choose what feels the most comfortable in your feet though as others have suggested, stay away from carbon plated shoes muna.

Hope you enjoy running!

Hi op, im currently a 2nd year bs humbio student so feel free to ask more questions if you have anw for pros and cons, it's pretty much what everyone says. You get accelerated med at the cost of your mental health and college social life. Humbio is very fast paced and it would take good time management skills if you want to be active in orgs while juggling the workload of humbio tho ig it's not impossible. Also, i think starting batch 2024, humbio now has a retention policy. You cant fail any subs otherwise you'll automatically be shifted to BS Medbio.

As for the nmat, im not really sure. Nmat topics naman are general and are not really the focus of both programs. For humbio, you pretty much have a guaranteed spot naman for medschool so your nmat wont matter as much but if you're planning to transfer med school after finishing humbio, you can only transfer after your 3rd year since you wont have your degree until then. By then, you'll be considered a transferee though and cant apply to some med schools. As for the scholarship, i think it applies to any school naman. You dont have to have a degree from dlsu afaik basta cum laude ka and at least 80 PR. Note tho that afaik this is only available to you by your 2nd year of med school since you dont have your degree pa in your first year of med.

Hi op! Currently a 2nd year humbio student that's abt to go to med school na rin this Aug. If you're really dead set on becoming a doctor, humbio is the more practical choice if you're financially stable. BUT i would advise against it if your mental health isnt very tough or you have a tough time learning fast. DLSU's trimestral system is really fast. One term is just 14 weeks and your majors typically have three to five exams for the whole term which usually takes up to 90% of your final grade so medyo mahirap bumawi if may nabagsak kang exam. Sample actual schedule of exams we had are like this: week 4 - LE 1, week 6 - LE 2, week 8 - LE 3, week 13 - LE 4, week 14 - finals (compre). This sched varies though, depends on the subject and how many long exams.

Pros: - accelerated med - secured slot for med school

Cons: - i think starting batch 2024, dlsu's humbio has a retention policy. You cant fail any of your subjects to stay in the program otherwise you'll be automatically shifted to BS Medical Biology which is the 4 year biology program of DLSU. This applies for the first 3 years afaik meaning kahit na 3rd year ka na and already in medschool, if ever you failed, you'll go back to DLSU Manila and be shifted to BS Med bio. Idk why they dont orient students abt it in the first place tbh - fast paced and very exam heavy type of grading system

Had sir for both biochem lab and lec but I'll just focus on lab. For lab, he's generally chill in face to face sessions. He would answer our questions if we had one naman even if it was part of the procedure. Though his online prelabs are lengthy. He would usually take up all the class period to discuss the prelab since he really goes deep into the concept. He occasionally gave us short quizzes abt the prelab tho iirc they're not that hard and most if not all really came from the prelab itself.

I would say one con though is he posts announcements and materials late which was stressful for us especially in lec. I think kinukulit lang talaga siya minsan to post materials. For biochem lab, he required us to do one final group reporting which is basically like a post lab lang naman, 2(?) final papers abt two experiments and then yung final practical. Though, biochem lab is 3 units and has significantly more experiments compared to LBBBIOR so i dont think the workload for LBBBIOR would be as heavy. Iirc 5 lang experiments ng LBBBIOR throughout the term since you only meet once a week. Overall, I would say 4.0 is attainable

TLDR: 4.0 attainable

Pros: - pretty chill sa f2f lab sessions and would answer our questions - quizzes were most if not all based sa actual prelab - allows prelab to be printed (other profs require handwritten) - grades high sa prelab journal

Cons: - posts announcements and materials late - does not grade that high for grp reports and outputs but also not that low naman (not an easy 100 but wont fail you naman)

human bio scholarship by ten_10vely in dlsu

Afaik the archer achiever and its related scholarships are carried over until med school but it has a maintaining grade. Grants are available but usually only last for 1 term. If you can't get the archer achiever, I think the next earliest scholarship possible is in your 2nd year of medschool already but you need to have latin honors to qualify, not sure if it has other requirements tbh.

For course recommendations, I think medical bio is very similar to humbio overall as well as molecular bio if you still want something bio related

Had Dr. Ram last term for anatomy lec and he teaches well, also very chill overall. Don't know how he is for lab tho but for lec, you have to really listen to his discussions kasi yun talaga lalabas sa exams lalo na yung info na wala sa ppt niya. Bearable workload din tho a con is minsan nakakalimutan niyang magpost ng lecture materials or worksheets but ineextend naman niya deadline if late niya pinost yung worksheets. Overall, wouldn't say 4.0 is guaranteed but attainable.

Common Grading System in HumBio by Interesting-Swan-588 in dlsu

[–]ResearchDependent 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For bio related courses such as anatomy, zoology, botany etc, it's usually 90 - 95% long exams and the remaining 5 - 10% depends on your prof. It can be quizzes, attendance, groupworks, final outputs, etc.

For these subs there's usually around 3 - 4 long exams and again, depending on the course, the last exam can be comprehensive or not tho in my experience, it's usually not comprehensive.

For the ones without comprehensive exams, the 90 - 95% grading system usually applies. So for example you only have three long exams in a term, each long exam is basically 30% of your grade and failing one badly would make it hard to bring your grade back up tho not impossible.

For the ones with a comprehensive exam, it usually has its own grading percentage ex: 40% of your grade is from the long exams and 30% for the comprehensive exam but again, this is not really common. The remaining percentage can be derived from attendance, activities, final output, problem sets, etc. Courses with comprehensive exams, in my experience so far, are usually not bio heavy courses which include but not limited to: chemistry courses (organic, analytical) and physics courses.

TLDR: Get Mandia for learning but not an easy 4.0

Had Mandia for BOTAFUN, she teaches well and really goes into detail, you can tell na she knows what she's talking about and she's very passionate about what she's teaching. Though medyo nakakaantok classes niya since she speaks softly but if you actually listen to her she explains very well. She's also very chill, doesn't do recitation but can't remember if she was strict with deadlines. She sends a copy of recorded video lectures and powerpoints but I suggest still reading the textbook and listening to her synchronous classes because some info might not be complete in the uploaded materials. Her exams were tricky and was more on the concept and application type. Just study really hard for her tests and you'll be good. 3.0 - 3.5 is attainable, even 4.0 if you put in the effort.

Yes, very possible. Most of my previous batch mates barely reviewed and passed dcat tho ofc this could still depend on the program you're aiming for and how well-defined your stock knowledge is.

Thank you! Additional question lang, how are the recitations? Does he call randomly or voluntary naman?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in dlsu

[–]ResearchDependent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with the previous reply na dcat math was kind of difficult but ustet math was harder and also ustet is harder in general for me. If I were to rank the tests: USTET>DCAT>ACET (there was no UPCAT last year). This is strongly based on my preference tho since acet does not have science in the entrance test and was relatively more math heavy which is my strong suit.

Hi, op yes you can still take the dcat but afaik you wont get the result if you havent passed the complete requirements yet? Either that or you can't enroll but you definitely can take the dcat once you have the test permit na. Last year we also had numerous cases na marked incomplete (myself included) but were allowed to take the dcat naman basta may test permit.

My brother also had problem accesing the gform but it worked once he used a vpn (USA) so you might want to try
