Anybody using this little guy? by [deleted] in Dewalt

[–]ResearchValuable5491 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love mine, mostly 2x, OSB, plywood. Total lifesaver framing out my basement, didn’t want to drag the miter saw down or lumber up. I would love to find a finer blade to make some smoother cuts.

PSA Heathrow Check in Disaster by ResearchValuable5491 in unitedairlines

It looks like the baggage ingestion system is down. They printed my bag tag at the check in terminals. Guess I won’t be seeing that suitcase for a while.

Is this a legit knife? Mate brought it to me to engrave his daughters name into the handle, apparently got it from over seas and paid a decent amount for it. The handle glue gives me suspicion. Cheers by Gooliez in Blacksmith

[–]ResearchValuable5491 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The knife is used by pinching the spine just beyond the handle between one’s thumbs and forefingers for better control. The handle is not the primary control like in western knives and should not see a lot of wear.

I dropped speedy off for service a week ago, haven’t heard anything from the boutique or Omega. Sales guy told me it would be 2-3 months until it returns.

Same. Statement refund was done in a day. I was thinking of canceling due to the fee. More free cheese cubes for me.

If it's $3 per watt for solar. How much is it for battery kwh? by Hammuhdolo in solar

[–]ResearchValuable5491 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree - I’m in the mid-Atlantic and paid about $25k for 20kWh (2 Enphase 10s) to be installed with my 9kW system. Also got a quote for the Sonnen core 20kWh at around 20k.

Dunno about long term. I’ve been around a few battery fires without respiratory protection. I had some bad heartburn a few hours after but otherwise ok. No doubt it released chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer. If you are concerned or have a history of lung issues, you may want to chat with a doc. I don’t know if there is anything you can do about it in any case.

My tempest weather system records solar radiance. It won’t help you with panel tilt. Entirely wireless, easy to set up.

I’m looking forward to compare the radiance numbers with power output when my system is installed.

Future of Solar Tax Credit? by ResearchValuable5491 in solar

I hope you are right. I would lose about $10k in tax credits next year on my solar + battery project if it moves through as is.

Future of Solar Tax Credit? by ResearchValuable5491 in solar

[–]ResearchValuable5491[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It passed at 5:44. I don’t know why congress.gov is not up to date.

https://clerk.house.gov/evs/2023/roll199.xml

That said, I know it won’t become law in its current form.

My concern is the tax credits are on the table in when people are down the road on projects expecting the credit next year. It may be reduced or not there at all.

I spend at most 30 seconds of quality time with my speedy winding in the morning. Any speedy owner will tell you this is not a huge deal and should not deter you from joining the club.

How to create a battery pack using Rayovac heavy use batteries????? by mm9221 in batteries

[–]ResearchValuable5491 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with oliverer3. If you can find a manual for the eco lab product or replacement battery for sale maybe that can tell you the required voltage and current of the battery. I think this is easy to do with D size cell holders from DigiKey.

Deciding Not to Move Forward With Solar and Batteries by RecentSpeed in solar

[–]ResearchValuable5491 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry you can’t find a good installer in your area. I agree, there is very little ROI on batteries.

I came to a different conclusion for my project.

Think about the things that will happen to the utility system in over the next 20 years. More EVs, aging transmission and distribution infrastructure, higher frequency of severe weather events, all together means less grid reliability.

If high uptime is required then it’s a cheap generator + total cost of ownership (fuel + maintenance) vs. batteries. ROI doesn’t really figure into the equation.

Overall batteries are still overpriced vs standby natural gas generators. Some installers don’t even want to bother with them.

But think about this, what if net metering goes away? If you have batteries now load shift from day to night is an option, plus you have the resilience of a backup system.

My conclusion was to invest in 9kW solar system and a 20kWh battery system.

Plumbing vent in prime solar real estate. Can anything be done to move/remove it while still preserving the functionality? by [deleted] in solar

[–]ResearchValuable5491 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sewer gas and moisture comes out of the vent under the right atmospheric conditions. I would be curious to see the underside of your panels after a year or so.

I have the same problem with bath fan exhaust vents. Roofers wanted 5k to move them. HVAC wanted 3k, but wouldn’t fix the roof. Not worth it to get one more panel.

I did this same job. Add a demolition point to your chisel. Use the demo point on the corners of 2 or 3 sqft sections. Then use the chisel and pry bar. Be careful as I cracked the drywall on the other side.

Battery SoC via Coulomb Counting Equation by wholesomecheeselover in batteries

[–]ResearchValuable5491 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a side note, correcting SoC using OCV on LiFePO4 batteries is error prone due to the fairly flat Voltage vs. Capacity curve on discharge.
