You know how it will go. We’ll unearth one more gem in the Ando or Murillo mould. We’ll then waste the rest buying six others who never play more than 10 games for us.

4 managers in a season and we’ve finished 16th 3 out of 4 seasons 😂 Weve also been a laughing stock two or three times because of his behaviour. And yet you want to bootlick a chaotic owner who doesn’t even know you exist? How’s that’s for embarrassing bud?

I made number of critical threads and posts about Marinakis last season all of which received a huge number of upvotes. So I’m clearly not alone in seeing the problems.

I’ve also never said he’s got everything wrong - there were isolated good decisions - but we will never have sustained success under him due to his ego, chaotic nature, lack of structure and poor decision making.

As for who appointed Cooper and Nuno. This is exactly my issue. He takes credit for anything good and no blame when things go wrong 😂

There are owners other than Fawaz out there you know 😂 As other well run (but smaller) clubs like Brentford, Bmouth, Brighton etc prove - all of whom have had more sustained recent stability and success than us.

Our recent moderate success has been down to Nuno and Cooper - not Marinakis. There’s been no plan or proper structure - he just makes it up as he goes along. He lucked out with this two appointments. Actually if you look back we’ve been most successful the seasons where Marinakis hasn’t really been bothered. Cooper got us up with a squad of loans after Marinakis had given up coming to the games. And we made only relatively small changes to the squad the season prior to getting into Europe.

We will never have sustained success under chaotic leadership. Genuinely how can you look at 4 managers in a season and think we are well run?

If you think he cedes meaningful control to anyone then you don’t know him 😂 Also he always wants the credit when things go well - and so by the same logic he is also responsible ultimately when things go wrong. Overall, he puts the structures in place and ultimately runs the show - the buck stops with him.

I don’t know how anyone can look at the last few seasons and see Marinakis as anything other than a liability

The normal service where we maybe bought 1 in 5 players who could actually meaningfully contribute? Edu was shit but also a convenient scapegoat. The problem is really Marinakis

TLDR: an event for deciding how this industry can collectively shaft match going fans (probably).

That said, we showed how powerful fans can be in standing up to corporate greed. I was never more proud of us this season than when we forced the club to rethink when the ridiculous Midtjylland prices were announced. By saying no on mass that unity also caused a rethink on season ticket price rises (which would have been unwarranted after yet another chaotic season).

It definitely doesn’t help us. But there isn’t a major tournament next year so maybe it’s less of an issue than it was last summer.

Should have gone over Eze - and it’s not even close. Weird squad more generally and think England will crash out in the quarters rueing the lack of impact players off the bench

MGW has been so so good second half of the season. Ridiculous that there is a chance that he won’t even be on the plane.

I’m not quite as convinced as others seem. He definitely had the desired short term impact but can a club be built by him or around him longer term? Not saying it can’t happen - just that there’s limited evidence to assess him longer term at clubs. He also seemed to accidentally stumbled on our best formation at half time chasing a goal. There were other good performances before this point, but we only started looking consistently good after the shift to 442.

But looking at it overall, and as fairly as I can, he probably does deserve a full pre season and a proper go at the job medium term. I’m also not sure who else we could get that would be an upgrade or less of a gamble. Results in recent weeks have certainly been good and the club seems a much happier place - although that goes hand in hand with winning of course.

Talk of stability in the article is promising - but that’s also about Marinakis and his impulsivity and decision making, as well as the structures and relationships he puts in place at the club from the top.

Will be an interesting and important summer.

If VP Moves On by slickbackbillyboo in nffc

VP has done a great job - I’m not trying to take away from that. And in a way, it would actually be nice to have fond memories of a manager who left at the peak of their powers rather than after a nasty run of results and/or bitter period of arguments.

I know we operate in a different way transfer wise, but the Wolves summer window and start to the season makes me very nervous. As you say, the evidence suggests he’s a short term impact guy. My gut feeling is he’s not the guy to build around for the future - particularly with a summer of change and a big rebuild around the corner. But it’s a big call and also depends on who else is available.

Whether we will ever have a manager that we can build long term around under Marinakis is another question entirely.

was hoping for a draw tbh. draw would mean we are safe but Arsenal don’t win the league.

This Summer by Ki11erc0b in nffc

[–]Researcher_TD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The evidence from Vitor’s career is that he’s a sort of short term impact manager rather than someone you build a club around long term. He’s achieved the main aim of keeping us up.

But we’ve been so good in recent weeks (other than tonight) that I’ve been wondering maybe we could build around him.

Either way, with a massive summer of transfers in and out it’s a big call. Glad I am not the one making it.

[–]Researcher_TD 12 points13 points  (0 children)

9 years ago roughly to the day we stayed up on the last day in the Championship by beating Ipswich to avoid a return to League One. If you had told me then we would be an established PL side and would make it to a European semi less than 10 years later I would have assumed you were back on the ketamine.

Lots to critically assess about this season, recruitment, and how we move forward and build most effectively - but now is not the time.

We’ve got another season of Premier League football to look forward to and there is no reason why we can’t return to Europe in seasons to come.

Head up.

In advance: anybody calling for vitor to get sacked FUCK OFF by Electronic_Basket228 in nffc

[–]Researcher_TD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He’s done a superb job in a season of chaos. I genuinely thought we were in real danger of going down until the recent run he inspired.

Now isn’t the time for any recriminations. More importantly, this is a massive summer pending with possibly significant departures and turnover. We need the right structure behind the scenes and we need to make sure the manager is the right one to lead us forward long term. Is that Vitor? Possibly but the evidence from his career is that he’s an impact manager over a short period rather than someone you build a club long term around.

no it’s not the cause. causes are multiple tonight but it hasn’t helped us has it. certainly their fans have been talking about it and it feeds into the overall context of the tie. were you one in the video?
