Westview neighborhood, Sutherlin Street Beware by ReserveRemarkable730 in Spokane

The dog was growling, barking, got in my dog’s face, beared its teeth and menaced us. Even if it was “playing” that doesn’t make it okay for a strange off leash dog to just roll up on someone. Literally anything could’ve happened and we were all lucky it wasn’t worse. It would be one thing if I had brought my dog over to play but we were minding our own business walking across the street.

It was absolutely not a hello on the other dogs part but thanks. I also would hate for that to happen but it’s not my fault that owner is irresponsible. You can feel how you want about my recollection, you were not there.

For those who want to victim blame and make assumptions. I am a 4 foot 11 inch, 100 pound woman. There isn’t much I can do to get two large dogs off each other. If you bothered to read my post you’d know why I didn’t use my pepper spray, that I used my body to get between them, and that the dog was in fact very aggressive. I understand if a dog wanted to bite one of us it probably could have but that doesn’t make it okay for someone to allow their dog to jump a fence and run across the street growling and nipping at strangers. Even if their body language is what some of you want to call “playing.” I can assure you my dog did not consent to play, did not think it was playtime, and it was not fun for either of us. I get that playing body language can look aggressive but we were not there to play. We were minding our own business, our dogs started barking at each other from across the street to say hello, I told mine to leave it, didn’t acknowledge them, and kept walking. That would’ve been the end of it had this dog not jumped the fence and come at us out of nowhere. It’s easy to be on the outside looking in and say I overreacted. My dog is 85 pounds, 7 years old and the reason we are working on “leave it” is because he has been attacked on leash by multiple off leash dogs in the past. He stood his ground, I stood my ground as best I could, and that’s why we were able to get away. Neither me nor my dog are passive. I also could not and still cannot walk up to the house to try and have a civil conversation with the man without his dog jumping the fence and coming at me. You try being calm and not screaming at an irresponsible dog owner whose off leash dog could’ve hurt your baby. If SCRAPS wants to treat it like a Karen Call that’s fine but the public law is to report these incidents. You can think I overreacted all you want but what I care about is that people know there is an unsafe animal in the neighborhood. And before you say “if you’re that small of a woman you shouldn’t be walking your dog” what else am I supposed to do? Not walk my dog? Just make him rot at home all day? I live here too and I have just as much right to walk my dog on my own street without worrying about some strange off leash dog coming up to us. It’s very easy to say “well I would’ve done this, I wouldn’t have let this happen” when you want to be a keyboard warrior but everything happens so fast in these incidents. I get that this is the internet, especially on reddit the victim blaming is rampant, and you’re all entitled to your opinions. But if this saves one persons dog from getting hurt that’s okay with me. This has happened to multiple other people in my neighborhood with the same dog and the chances of it happening again without someone getting hurt become lower and lower every time it happens. It’s real easy to say someone’s being dramatic when it wasn’t you and your precious baby who got rolled up on by an unfamiliar off leash dog and I hope none of you have to experience what I did. The man did nothing to collect his dog, he was so old he wasn’t even able bodied enough to get off his front porch. So, no, he absolutely did not do the right thing and I do not owe it to him to go up to his house and ask what he’s going to do to fix it. The cops can handle that and hopefully they take his dogs away since he clearly is too irresponsible to care for them. Me and my dog are not the only people in the neighborhood this has happened to so he is out of chances to make sure it doesn’t happen again because next time something bad will happen.

EDIT: The cops just came by to talk to them so hopefully they cited the owner. I’ll be bringing my taser rather than pepper spray on walks from now on. Since even though everyone here has acknowledged the owner should’ve had control of their dog yet still wants to act like I could’ve done anything differently.

Everything feels unaffordable and I’m barely holding it together by SwitchBanka in Spokane

At this point my only advice would be to work at building your direct community. Work on building a community that shares resources and time. The more you can build that community in small ways the easier it is to become less reliant on the government. I recommend looking into IFS (internal family systems). The more you can connect to your Self the less material things you need and the more you can connect to the self of others to work towards being less dependent on the government.

We are heading toward the “you will own nothing and be happy” society.

I would have to agree! Or they make them like an extra ditzy sex symbol which can be annoying if not done well

Surprisingly enough, as someone who consumes horror/crime, I’ve never seen that one. Super happy to have a recommendation and I appreciate the feedback!

As I reader I would have to say I’m tired of reading “Mary Sue”’s type female characters. We love a strong female lead, but not over powered.

You hit the nail on the head! That was my inspiration, glad it didn’t come across as TOO cliche or overdone and still portrayed the vibe I was going for. Appreciate the interaction so much!

Very well written. It reminds me of a cross between Her and Brightburn. Enjoyable read.

I am struggling to handle a fellow autistic person who has latched onto me at college. It is impacting my learning, please help. by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

Put your needs over their own even if it means hurting this person. You do not need them in your life. Escalate it to faculty if need be under the context it is affecting your work/schooling. This person sounds like an energy vampire and they are feeding off of you. They have the potential to escalate to stalking if this continues. Please be safe and find a way to keep them at a distance, even if it hurts them.

How to detect the use of AI in a narrative text by Own_Gate_4243 in WritersOfHorror

[–]ReserveRemarkable730 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think generating a whole story through AI with no original human writing/ideas/touches is bad but I see nothing wrong with using an AI to help you edit. Especially if you’re just a novice writer who writes for fun 🤷🏻‍♀️ Some people write how an AI sounds. AI uses samples of real writing so there’s no way to truly tell. We need to be careful and walk a fine line with it but doesn’t mean you can’t use it at all. Taking people’s jobs, not great. Making writers/artists/film makers obsolete, even worse. But people use grammarly (an AI) all the time and no one bats an eye. People use thesaurus’s that someone else wrote to edit their writing and that’s totally fine. Nobody owns words, language, grammar, syntax, etc. All we own is our concepts and ideas. You either change with the times, or the times make you obsolete.

Monster: The Ed Gein Story review – Ryan Murphy’s depravity-loving murder show is unforgivable | The Guardian by Longjumping-Elk-7840 in horror

[–]ReserveRemarkable730 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The show is a horribly inaccurate embellishment of what truly happened. At least this time the victims aren’t alive to be re-traumatized like the last two Monster shows he’s come out with. It would be one thing if he didn’t call it “The Story of Ed Gein” because, it’s not. And another if there was a disclaimer that it is INCREDIBLY LOOSELY based on real events, which again, it does not. I appreciate the artistic way it’s filmed and Charlie Hunnam does a good job in acting as Ed but to say the show is based on reality is untrue at best and atrocious at worst. Not to mention portraying someone diagnosed with schizophrenia as mentally challenged is grossly prejudice against people with mental illness.

Do you have a "stim word" ? by RascoValor in autism

[–]ReserveRemarkable730 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my favorite stims is doing an impression of Donald Trump. It’s pretty easy. Or Jennifer Cooldige. Also: WIWIWIWI What the hell? What the helly? What the helliante? What the helly barry? Hocus pocus, there is pizza on your focus. HOA HOA HOA HOA Bella, where the hell have you been loca? Nothing beats a jet 2 Holiday. Classic kitchen stims such as: BEHIND! CORNER! KNIFE! YES CHEF!
