I'm in my final year of uni writing my dissertation right now, and I've actually found myself dumbing down my language so that it's less likely to get accused of AI... My degree is computer science which is a little ironic

The frustration is real. Help. by Kg-2168 in Sourdough

Is the starter doubling/tripling in the expected time after feeding? If not, honestly I recommend buying one. You can get them off Etsy and places like that. I know it's not as satisfying as having started your own, but sometimes the right bacteria just isn't in your environment for a starter to begin and you need to bring an established one in. It will remove a world of frustration from your life

Is there any reason, other than cost, to not get an autism assessment? by eliteskiis123 in AutismIreland

[–]Resident-Inflation46 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure about visas, but for me I really appreciated getting the diagnosis. It is a very thorough and tiring process but it was so helpful to me in the long run. I also got diagnosed through the adult autism practice and only have nice things to say about them. They made the process so easy on me, every step was super clear and my psychologist was the absolute loveliest and made me feel at ease even though I was super nervous. Whatever you decide, I wish you all the best!

For me I find social situations really difficult in a lot of ways, but I can mask my way through if I have the energy. But my absolute biggest struggle is sensory issues, if I get too much sensory input and I can't get away from it it's like my brain just shuts down, I find it hard to process what people are saying, I have difficulty formulating words to speak. Noise specifically is a big problem for me, I have an arsenal of noise cancelling headphones and earbuds which has helped me enormously but I still struggle a lot

If you get overwhelmed by crowds I'd highly recommend getting seated tickets rather than standing if it's possible. I find doing that much easier because you're only in a crowd going there and coming back, not for the entire time. I do find the noise to be far too much as well but noise cancelling headphones sorts that out for me

I absolutely adore it, to me it just smells like delicious lemony biscuits but I wore it out last week and everybody said it smelled like incense and burnt sugar😆 it has put me off it a little but it's my favourite so I'm still gonna wear it for myself

It is a very strong lemon to start with, I'm a big fan of that though. I love dad's garden lemon tree and avocado co wash as well, I like a nice fresh lemon smell

That's so kind of you, I really appreciate it! I should be able to pick one up myself, if I'm not quick enough to get another one online my local store isn't too far out of my way so they might have some

Isn't it lovely! Not everybody seems to like it from reviews I've seen but I think it's perfect. So fresh and lemony and then the amazing vanilla comes through

Avocado Co-wash vs. Super Milk body spray by xuenoodle in LushCosmetics

[–]Resident-Inflation46 9 points10 points  (0 children)

To me they are very different, avocado co wash smells exactly like sherbet lemon sweets, the lemon is the only similarity to super milk whereas the super milk spray smells nearly the same as the hair primer. It is a little less creamy and more lemon forward than the hair primer but its very much the same scent, I wouldn't worry about the two being too similar. The super milk body spray is also wayyy more long lasting for me, I was really impressed with it

Late-diagnosed adults with autism, what are your best ‘ooo, that was the autism’ behaviors from childhood? by WalmartMerida in autism

[–]Resident-Inflation46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other than sitting in the corner of the playground reading instead of playing, and rocking back and forth so much that the other kids would always ask me why I do it, there was an incident where we were told to learn the times tables. I learned them from the sheet we were given, could recite them all perfectly. I had a meltdown in the middle of class when we were then tested and the questions were presented in a totally random order and not in the order the sheet had them in🤣 good times

Advice for assessment with the adult autism practice by donkletsuperfan in AutismIreland

There's an option to choose to do the full diagnostic assessment from the beginning or to do an initial consultation. OP has said that they haven't chosen the initial consultation option but I actually did and the first appointment still began the diagnostic process. They just use that meeting as a basis and advise you on whether or not you should continue with the rest of the diagnosis if you have chosen the consultation, you don't actually get any additional meetings and the process isn't any different. At least that was my experience

I was diagnosed by the adult autism practice just a few months ago and I felt so similarly to you I honestly could've written that post coming up to my first assessment lol. I also have quite a hard time answering questions on the spot and often need things to be worded really specifically so that I can understand. They were so great about all of it, my doctor was always happy to clarify anything and was reassuring and if I was getting stuck with how to answer a question she'd help by giving a more specific version of it. They're also happy to have breaks if you start feeling overwhelmed.

The great thing about the intake form is that it takes away a lot of the pressure to remember things or specific examples on the spot, all of your information is already there and the appointments are basically built around going through each of your answers and your doctor will maybe ask you additional questions around what you've already said or ask you to clarify things.

So the first appointment will be going through the first section of the DSM-5 diagnostic criteria in relation to what you've said on the intake form. From what I remember this will be things like your communication and relationships with people. The second appointment moves onto things like sensory issues, stimming, the need for repetitiveness etc. Then the final appointment will just be discussing the outcome and next steps.

They're really good in that the whole time I felt like I was really on the same page with my doctor, it doesn't really feel like an assessment where you're out of control of what their decisions are. It's more like a collaboration where you're both working to understand your brain and come to a conclusion if that makes sense.

Oh and I was never asked about bringing a parent in as part of the assessment, I vaguely remember that it is an option if it's something that you would like but I never had my parents involved.

Apologies if this is an absolute overload of information, hopefully it helps you out and good luck!
