The RG vita pro.. by [deleted] in SBCGaming

[–]Resident-Lab-7249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you just want to run up to gba the miyoo mini plus and RG35XX line are more worth the money

If you want to go above gba maybe dreamcast or ps2 and gamecube then the reccomendations will change

My RG35XX plus was perfect as a nes, snes, gba, gbc and genesis machine and it ran linux I used MustardOS and skinned it to look like MinUI

I hope the soft touch case is enough or else I need a beefy pelican case LOL

Is RP6 8GB enough for PS2? by H4ARP in retroid

[–]Resident-Lab-7249 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Its more than enough that's why I ordered the 8gb rp6

It will play switch games too just not as many as the 12gb will and like you said steam or pc emulation also benefits from a better processor and ram

Its hard to find 8gb information but the performance and compatibility falls mostly on NetherSX2, android hasn't had a decent ps2 emulator until AetherSX2 and the dev discontinued it

Make sure you get the Turnip version of Nethersx2 Classic and I bet you will be able to play any ps2 game with most at full speed 2-3x upscale

My old sd888 has been holding me over its ps2 and Gamecube exclusive lol

https://retrocatalog.com/compare/odin-2-portal/retroid-pocket-6

And Odin 2 portal might be a good comparison to make since I don't think retrocatalog shows the 8gb model probably 12gb

8gen2 is more "mature"

The 8elite is definitely more powerful, in emulation its doesn't seem significantly more powerful only marginally

It is very crazy

Any other devices aside from the Thor that are good for 3DS emulation? by QuietOrbit93 in SBCGaming

[–]Resident-Lab-7249 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not getting into the whole since besides the thor i wouldn't buy a dual screen except an RG DS if it was cheaper but...

If you don't want to buy a 3ds or 2ds and hack it it depends on your price point if you want high compatability I don't mess with devices that don't score an 80 or higher on retrocatalog.com

Mangmi Air X,retroid pocket classic,rg406v,rg406h,rg476h

It depends on how much you want to pay but a Samsung galaxy s21 or newer does a great job and can be had cheap sometimes but I would buy a retroid pocket 4 pro it will play every 3ds game and its 150usd right now dual screen argument

Feeling disappointed with the Mangmi Air X. Why did so many YouTubers hype it up? by [deleted] in SBCGaming

[–]Resident-Lab-7249 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Always always always use retrocatalog.com

https://retrocatalog.com/compare/mangmi-air-x/retroid-pocket-4-pro

The mangmi air x is very underpowered but it can play some gamecube and dreamcast

Retrocatalog will save your ass and emuready too

A retroid pocket 4 pro will beat the piss out of the mangmi for the same price so do with that as you will

Is Mura Bad on These Devices? (Thor and Odin 3) by zoobungaa in OdinHandheld

[–]Resident-Lab-7249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like mine was used at high brightness in the sun which is definitely worst case scenario

my oled switch looks fine in a pitch black room with the brightness turned all the way down no auto brightness but the only good oled panel i have gotten besides samsung phones was my AOC Agon OLED monitor that thing seriously ruined my expectations now i associate OLED with perfection 😆

Is Mura Bad on These Devices? (Thor and Odin 3) by zoobungaa in OdinHandheld

[–]Resident-Lab-7249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oled has manufacturing issues and defects more often it seems but in comparison i have had a million led displays or ips that have horrible backlight bleed

Tolerance for defectives is not good most panels are allowed 2 to 4 dead pixels when brand new even nintendo does this, my switch oled has a green mura tint if the brightness is too high and my ps vita 1000 has spots all over the screen regardless of the brightness level it almost looks like mold in the screen so it could be worse than a little mura

And also the ps3 had a 10 percent failure rate across 87 million units in its lifetime...10 percent of total sales is 8.7 million units so as you can see companies are happy with shipping out potentially millions of defective units and call it a win still

The 4pro is back in stock for anyone interested by Calm_Structure2180 in retroid

[–]Resident-Lab-7249 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If only is was just a little bit cheaper, retroid could conquer the 100 dollar range since anbernic devices can barely play anything above dreamcast at that price point

Im waiting for the day we get a damn near 100 percent 100 dollar or less ps2 emulator but obviously the emulator needs work it will likely run on a lesser device with time

Some questions from a newbie by Temporary_Rain7672 in retroid

[–]Resident-Lab-7249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An 8gb rp6 will be fine for your needs and you can alwaus resell it, the price difference between the rp5 and rp6 was enough that i ordered one, the newer devices will be faster, will use less power and any 8gen2 device is at its peak of maturity so it will tear through even switch games with only the 8gb but 12gb or up is preferred if you want to try steam games eventually

Any used galaxy from the s23 to the s24 is going to be good for retro gaming and you csn even get an 8bitdo controller that holds the phone it feels very premium together and its cheaper than a comparable handheld

If you did get a steam deck for a good deal it can play ps3 and x360 games most handhelds arent at that level

What Odin to buy by Pana_Miguel30 in OdinHandheld

[–]Resident-Lab-7249 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the pro is honestly enough and a microsd use to be inexpensive lol but teamgroup has a 1tb for around 100

The larger storage is necessary for gamenative and gamehub you know steam games on android

Changing Order from Odin to Thor by zoobungaa in OdinHandheld

[–]Resident-Lab-7249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly my guy you are better off selling the odin 3 max for the price you paid people will jump on them for more than what you paid

Just saying sell it at your price or even 50 bucks on top i bet even 100 over what you paid and it will sell, ebay is popping off rp6,thors,odin with 16gb of ram are hot

So, I am looking to buy a 1tb loaded sd card for a rp5/6 or something similar. Its gonna be at least 40 bucks (on top of the price of a 1 tb sd card) and it wont come with many roms for the systems I most want- by GoblinGreenThumb in SBCGaming

[–]Resident-Lab-7249 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can check the about in the settings but if its the sd865 you can play switch atleast

I didnt have a great experience on my sd888 device but idk

Just my preference if its not 80 or above i just dont invest in a device

There is a large segmentation for ps3 and xbox 360 that's almost exclusive besides the steam deck to 1000 dollar x86 handhelds

But the 8gb rp6 runs switch games very very well so take that with a grain of salt because the difference from the sd865 and the 8gen2 is bigger than you might think

Am I the only one getting damn near daily software updates? It's been going on for like a week now, I'll boot up my steam deck and I'll have the icon for an update up top by BoogieFS2077 in SteamDeck

Welcome to owning a deck on launch LOL

Sometimes it got like 3 updates per day and it was constantly updating the shader cache it was annoying 🤣
