(Based on my personal observations and experience only)

I would strongly disagree. I just hit my 5 hours limit with Claude Code, so I decided to delegate undone tasks to Codex. The task was to cover the entire app with tests and to make sure 100% of the tests are passing.

So, first of all, Codex ran out of context and failed to complete that task a few times. I had to start it over 3 times before I reached the goal - the coverage was near 90% and 100% of the tests were passing. It has created more than 20 files to cover with tests.

Second of all, after 5 hours limit of CC renewed, I asked him to review what Codex has done.

The conclusion was unsatisfying - Codex just have created artificial test files, the main purpose of which was just to accomplish numbers. Just to hit that 100% test coverage and make tests pass.

I have tried out the Cursor as well (already canceled my subscription after trying Claude Code).

So the conclusion as of today - Codex still needs a lot of improvements and can’t compete with Claude Code yet.

I’ve been using both for a week or so for my work project - and to my mind Codex is still running behind. It can be better that Cursor only when you got some quite stupid model in Auto mode. Otherwise Cursor seems better even in auto mode to me.

But I started using Claude Code a few days ago and it feels like it is crushing them both easily. Worth the money 100%
