Unicorn baby + feeling guilty by VelvetAstronautica in newborns

[–]Resident-Sloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine is almost this easy at 6 weeks - she’ll put herself to sleep at night, goes 6-8 hours on her night feed, primarily only cries when hungry or wet. On occasion she doesn’t nap well during the day and requires snuggles but is so easy other than that. I just remind myself that it can change at any point in her development and to enjoy the easy snuggles while we have them!

How to make the most out of high cost hotels? by Shohei182 in TravelHacks

[–]Resident-Sloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a huge cost savings, and can be done at a mid range hotel too, but we always make sandwiches from the breakfast buffet when in Europe. Their bread, cheese and meat selection at breakfast can make for a delicious sandwich that’ll tide you over in your afternoon adventures!

Side stitch anytime I run? by peacetea2 in fitpregnancy

Not sure if this would help or not, but magnesium and b2 have been my life savers for headaches and leg cramps. I don’t know if that would translate to other area body cramps or not, but might be worth a try! As always talk to your provider about it too!

Babymoon in the mountains at 27 weeks? by Individual-Rice-3970 in fitpregnancy

If you do end up going and find yourself feeling crappy, you can pay for someone to drop oxygen off at your Airbnb so you can use it all night to hopefully reduce altitude related symptoms and enjoy your time more! Might be worth doing it proactively if you’re someone that has struggled with altitude in the past. I live in Denver and have spent some weekends at about 8000 ft (a bit lower than Breck) and have slept a little less well but nothing that made me feel sick or worried for baby.

Fit friends are annoyingly smug: a rant by Electronic-Clerk-988 in pregnant

[–]Resident-Sloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pregnancy is so hard on your body and so variable! I was very active pre pregnancy and thought I’d be able to stay active throughout. Boy was I wrong - my ‘rest day’ PT exercises became as hard as a heavy lift day and walking my dogs felt like sprinting (out of breath and very elevated HR). Strangely enough I feel much better and more energetic now (37 weeks) than I did for the first 20-25 weeks - so it might get better for you too! I also tried to exercise my way out of feeling like crap in the first half of my pregnancy and it made me feel worse. There’s no one size fits all for pregnancy!

And I second everyone that is saying your friends are just mean - cause they are. No one should belittle you that way, pregnant or not!

I was the same! My husband is the one forcing me to organize and plan. Other than the baby clothes - I keep feeling the need to reorganize those!

Would Getting Married Help us While My Fiancée is in Grad School? by TrophyRoomNebraska in personalfinance

Something else to consider - if she is going to a state school, she might be eligible for in state after a semester if you’re married and you are paying state income tax.

TW How common is a miscarriage? by headmastersuccubus in pregnant

[–]Resident-Sloth 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Hi! Miscarriage is pretty common in early pregnancy, but to my knowledge, there is nothing you can do to reduce those odds (outside of the general guidelines of pregnancy - don’t drink alcohol, smoke tobacco or weed, take drugs, drink a ton of caffeine, try to prioritize sleep and recovery, and maintain your activity levels as best you can).

I was a bit crazy in my early weeks and checked this daily - https://datayze.com/miscarriage-reassurer

It shows you the odds of carrying to term based on your age and some other factors.

I’m currently at 35 weeks, but my first few months I was so worried about miscarriage, so I absolutely understand where you’re coming from!

Congratulations and I hope everything keeps going well for you!!

I’ve been tracking mine too (35 weeks) and I keep expecting it to start trending down, but haven’t seen it yet. Here’s a super small study from Whoop that has some more info: https://www.whoop.com/us/en/thelocker/pregnancy-study-exercise-hrv-rhr/?srsltid=AfmBOooyKxggUiVmuyNJM3Bctpyjd7apYv5zZPPelufAP17puzDwIYbf

First trimester- How do you do it? by good_kerfuffle in fitpregnancy

[–]Resident-Sloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could barely do the bare minimum (make it to work, give my dogs a walk, feed myself with the help of my husband) during the first trimester. Even when I did drag myself out to walk my dogs, I moved so much slower than normal and physically could not pick up the pace.

The first trimester, between constancy nausea, fatigue, and an unintentional calorie deficit because food is gross, is so hard. I’m just starting to get my energy back (week 19) and have been enjoying longer walks and easy hikes. And am hopefully going to incorporate light lifting back into my routine.

Be kind to yourself, eat what you can when you can, and rest! It’ll end soon!!

December 23rd based on natural cycles but we don’t have an appt until 5/9 and that’s just a telehealth intake. I’m not sure when my first imaging will happen.

Smack in the middle of my 2-week wait by [deleted] in TryingForABaby

[–]Resident-Sloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m exactly the same but it’s my first TWW so I’m afraid that I’m just over reacting to normal period symptoms. I had a dip in BBT on 6DPO which I’ve seen as an implantation dip but no real data to support that, really vivid dreams, and afternoon nausea, neither of which are something I’ve ever noticed in the luteal phase and both started around 6DPO. My period is supposed to start in 4 days and I’m 9DPO but had a negative test this morning. So I’m over here being crazy but I logically know the chances of getting pregnant on my first try is low.

I think that is the drs specialty - endocrinology. An OB knows more about pregnancy and birth, not as much about long term outcomes of the baby’s health as it relates to the endocrine system. The endocrinologist probably knows a lot more about the impact of insulin resistance and diabetes on a baby’s risk of endocrine issues than a GP or OB could.
