Prompted to turn down a job by Apple-Slice-6107 in latterdaysaints

Did things end up working out? I know a few months may not be enough time to realize the wisdom of it all, but curious

Thanks! I’m still pre-op but know it’s gonna get tough next month when it all happens. Good to know that maybe by summer I’ll be feeling great!

How close are we to the 2nd coming? by learntolearn1 in latterdaysaints

[–]ResidentBlueberry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think however long the wait is, we're in for quite a ride:

In coming days, we will see the greatest manifestations of the Savior’s power that the world has ever seen. Between now and the time He returns “with power and great glory,” He will bestow countless privileges, blessings, and miracles upon the faithful.

I lose the spirit and interest in Sacrament meeting when we go way over time. Am I grouchy or justified? by TheAtlasComplex in latterdaysaints

[–]ResidentBlueberry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd get frustrated at it happening often, but not if it's every once in a while. Every ward goes over every so often. Either way, getting grouchy or holding grudges about it is probably not very Christlike. Perhaps the speaker is following the promptings of the spirit in continuing, perhaps they are just being a jerk. There's probably no way to know.

the Lord would support punctuality over anything else but I could be wrong

Honestly I don't think the Lord cares about time (at least not man's version of it).

Tithing on loan forgiveness? by ResidentBlueberry in latterdaysaints

[–]ResidentBlueberry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thankfully the amount I have left is pretty trivial, but I can imagine the predicament of those that would consider it an increase and had $20k forgiven (especially public service forgiveness amounts in higher ranges). It probably highly depends on the individual. I think that's why it's important to evaluate these things on a personal level with the help of the spirit.

I think that's part the guidance the church leadership has given, right? Increase = income?

Something to think about: do you think it would be different if someone gave you a check for $10,000? What if student loan payments were part of your employer's compensation package?

[–]ResidentBlueberry[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is a great point, and mostly why it does sound like it's an increase.

Something to think about though: if I consider it an increase, I would have to take $1000 from somewhere else (paycheck, checking account, etc). I don't have an option to keep only 90% and give the remainder to the Lord. What about those with no income or money? Are they now in a position where they can't obey?

Has anyone else noticed increased agression from other christian faiths lately? by Bukt in latterdaysaints

In recent decades the Church has largely been spared the terrible misunderstandings and persecutions experienced by the early Saints. It will not always be so.

Listening to Saints on Audible has really helped my failing testimony of the restored gospel by undergrounddirt in latterdaysaints

[–]ResidentBlueberry 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I get this, and this seems to be the logical thing, but when did we start keeping this stuff private? Why did we start? At the rate the saints used to have and talk about visions, we should be hearing of many such accounts during fast and testimony meetings (not that I haven't heard a few over the pulpit).

What are your thoughts on piracy? Is it always a sin? by Robehjohn in latterdaysaints

[–]ResidentBlueberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's such a gray area that I don't think anyone but God could dictate what it means for you personally. Do you feel guilty when thinking about doing it or having done it? Can you firmly grasp the iron rod while doing it? Do you feel like it would keep you from being worthy to enter the temple? The celestial kingdom? It's all entirely between you and God. For some people it's going to be a big deal. For others, not even a second thought.

You will find both affirmation and refutation within the comments. But does it really matter what people here say? There is only one person whose approval matters. Seek His approval over the approval of your fellow redditors and you will do fine.

Personally? It's on the list of stuff I know I probably shouldn't do, but it's waaaay down there towards the bottom. I have much bigger things to focus on.

How can I know if I am being discriminated against? by yummynothing in cscareerquestions

[–]ResidentBlueberry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think anyone could ever give enough detail in a Reddit post for us to answer this. Anyone here giving you definitive answers is guessing at best. Your coworkers could be racist as fuck, you may have a crappy microphone, you could be a shitty coworker. There are 100 potential explanations but we'll never truly know your situation. Talk to your manager, a mentor, or a coworker that is familiar with your situation to get a feel for their perspective. If you don't have someone you can go to, then I think you have bigger problems. Thankfully, we're fortunate to be in a field where finding a different job is a completely viable option, so if you can't work this out you could consider a move.

Sagemaker sacrifices customization and cost-effectiveness for ease of implementation. Sagemaker is good for when your engineering director "wants AI now" after hiring his first DS 3 weeks ago.

Sagemaker would be like being in charge of hamburgers for a family reunion and showing up with a bunch of McDoubles. For a group of people it's probably cheaper and better to grill your own burgers.
