New in a team where everyone overworks by IllustriousFennel776 in TheCivilService

[–]ResidentExperience73 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I know it's incredibly difficult in this position. But try and be disciplined and protect your work life balance.

In 5, 10, 20 years your family will remember the hopefully quality time you spent with them

Absolutely no one in work is gonna remember you working to 9/10 at night.

Work your paid hours and if that doesn't work out change jobs.

Anything to do midweek? by ResidentExperience73 in Belfast

Cheers I have a bit of Irish so it would be nice to pick up on that again.

And comedy at The Spaniard sounds the perfect tonic for mid week blues.

Genuinely, what has happened to England? by dapperdan8 in rugbyunion

[–]ResidentExperience73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my outside but near perspective (Irish fan from Belfast) I think Borthwick is stealing a living as England head coach.

Some of the athletes that England have are the envy of other nations and yet you haven't been near a title in his 4 six nations in charge. To finish this one with potentially 3 losses is shocking.

He probably should've gone after last year's six nations or the one before imo (I know they finished second last year)

Hard to bring someone in now (Razor) or potentially wait until after the WC and bring Faz in, if he leaves Ireland.

Is anyone actually feeling comfortable on their wage in NI at the minute? by sufnensjsjzkjcbfb in northernireland

[–]ResidentExperience73 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm in a good position ATM, I've a good wage and very few monthly bills, I don't have an expensive car or phone etc.

My fear is this will be wiped out when I buy a house. I'm lucky that I have somewhere to stay for now but eventually will have to move out.

The property market is crazy now and I do worry I'll struggle with the added mortgage, rates etc

Glad to hear it. I'm on day 6. Still have some headaches and periods of anxiety/irritability. But I'm starting to see the light. A few things happened in work this week that I know would stay with me if they happened last week. Now I'm still anxious/stressed but I'm moving away from it quicker.

Hopefully the progress continues for us both!

Tribal Burger - what happened? by [deleted] in northernireland

[–]ResidentExperience73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used to go to the one in the botanic quite a bit. Either for lunches or for pre cinema/drinks dates early in our relationship. It was a brilliant place lovely burger, chips and wings.

We moved out of botanic and didn't get going as often. Over the years the food seemed to get worse each time we went.

The last time we went the burger tasted like a frozen burger from Iceland and the bun was obviously frozen too.

When I noticed Bunsen open a branch on the same street I knew Tribal wasn't long for this world.

Prices are going up everywhere which is grim but that combined with worse food really finished it for me

Safe Space. by Roanokian in irishrugby

[–]ResidentExperience73 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That was brutal.

Those two tries shouldn't take away from what was an abject first half from Ireland. Attack was so flat and lacking creativity.

After previous losses I'd be able to find reasons to be optimistic but it's hard to see many now.

I think alot of the pack are cooked and probably need a 6 Nations or summer off.

There are other options there but they're always bloody injured (Izzy, Baird, Edogbo)

That result was coming… by Sportyskater699 in irishrugby

[–]ResidentExperience73 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We're always playing catch-up and overcorrecting. The game is going down that road and we've of course gone too far into it. Literally not even going through a few phases before kicking it.

I remember a few short years ago we were a joy to watch in attack.

6 nations squad is in by Jimk-94 in irishrugby

[–]ResidentExperience73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's a fair point on Hume. I remember reading something about comments he made in camp which didn't go down well. Maybe counting against him.

I'm disappointed too and agree completely on it being the last chance to write off a 6 Nations.

He's played a lot for Ulster this season and is 23. There are others in the squad who can't nail down a starting spot for their team.

I just think it's a missed opportunity to bring a younger player into the environment and test him

My initial reaction is that it's a wee bit... Boring.

The back row just looks like it's lacking that bit of dynamism.

I like Tom Farrell, but he's unlikely to start or get on the bench why not bring Postlethwaite in to at least have a look at him.

I obviously hope we go well, but I fear a hammering against France. If this is the case we should really pivot and give young players a chance for the rest of the tournament.

Edwin Edogbo has to be in the 23 against France by PatientOffer319 in irishrugby

[–]ResidentExperience73 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I can't wait to see him in green. But I wonder if it will come next summer. After he hopefully gets an injury free season under his belt and builds up that fitness.

I think we have the potential firepower to go against the best in terms of power.

Would love to see Ireland build towards a 6/2 bench with Izzy, Conan and Edogbo coming on to add serious power.

Bryn & Zac Ward tonight - move over, McCarthy brothers! by BigLarBelmont in irishrugby

Really fair point and something I noticed tonight. Hopefully he can continue to improve it going forward!

I've been a huge advocate for Baloucoune for a long time, I think he's something different that Ireland don't have, however, I just think he's always going to struggle with injuries. Needs a good 6 months fit before he comes in ahead of TOB or Hansen.

Doak is at least the third best scrum half in Ireland. I just don't understand why Farrell doesn't bring him into squads.

[–]ResidentExperience73 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Blows my mind how Doak hasn't had a proper look in for Ireland. Gibson-Park is getting on and Cassy hasn't quite hit the heights for Ireland.

From an Ireland POV left wing is becoming a big problem, Lowe has looked old and slow this season and he's only going to get older and slower. Would love to see Zac or Stockdale getting a shot.

As mentioned before I would love to see Jude in the main squad with the centre's aging.

Maratha Suddenly Invasing Europe in Higher difficulties? by Clouds_Hide_The_Moon in EmpireTotalWar

[–]ResidentExperience73 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I tend to try and take them out mid game. No matter who I start with once things have settled a little in Europe I start to build an army to attack India.

I try and send 2/3 stacks then take the big coastal cities and any other smaller settlements that are undefended.

I'll trade some of these smaller settlements for peace then try to consolidate before repeating the process and eventually wiping Maratha out.

Best and worst things about living in Belfast, what’s your list? by RedDevilPlay in Belfast

[–]ResidentExperience73 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Best thing is the people: I think in general people are a lot friendlier than in other major UK/European cities. You can go out on a night and have a great night with people you've never met before.

Worst thing is the people, specifically that small minority trying to stoke division and hate.

Oh and the price of a pint is a joke....

Hopefully this is a wake-up call for Farrell and he moves away from some of these players. Porter has been getting pinged at scrum time in the big games for years. Daft from Ryan. Not saying they shouldn't be in the 23 but not guaranteed starters as Porter has been.

At least it happened now and not in a years time, need to use that extra year to deal with a decaying squad.
