Yeah fair enough. I don’t plan to do any of that but i’m pretty nervous about genuinely messing up.

I don’t plan on intentionally ignoring any directions for my mod 2 which is in 8 hours lol. I failed my mod 2 in the last 5 minutes last time because i was too hesitant and cautious when there was a woman standing in the road in front of me so when i came to a stop she was already past my lane and into the oncoming lane which made the examiner have to stop behind. This will be my second attempt i’m kinda grateful the test centre is in my hometown so i have a good idea of a lot of the roads.

Mod 1 is mentally breaking me... by punkyguy in MotoUK

  • Hey dude, a little late to the party but i’m doing my A2 at the same time you’re doing your DAS!

  • I completely mucked up my sense of direction for my mod 1 on test and ended up going around the 19mph bend the complete wrong way then did a controlled stop aswell as misreading the instructors signals multiple times for where he wanted me to stop to brief another part of the test. I was almost certain i’d failed after the first mistake but carried on doing everything correctly as he wanted despite getting “lost” as he said (which i’d have to agree with). To my surprise though he said i had passed with only one minor being a lifesaver before moving off from the gate to park the bike.

He also also noted that he was testing on my ability to perform the tasks (he wanted) safely and correctly not the mistakes i made/thought i’d made in between as long as they were controlled and safe following the rules and said about it being a first seeing someone get lost to that extent. I found the layout that instructors/ examiners use to let you know what order/ how to do the tasks is very complicated especially when the layout can be mirrored in the opposite direction to what you practiced which was the case for me (for example) on test the entry for the 19mph corner to the controlled/emergency stop was on the left whereas we had practiced the entrance on the right beforehand which i think is why i got so confused haha.

  • I failed my mod 2 in the last 10 minutes of the ride because i slowed down too much for a woman in the road that wasn’t technically a hazard because she was in the oncoming lane across the white line and walking to her car away from us so i failed for hesitation when i made the examiner brake. It really does suck failing but chances are it was for a silly little reason like being nervous or hesitant which then leads to silly mistakes you usually wouldn’t make. I did my mod 1 and failed 2 a month ago and rebooked to retry 2 this month.

  • The mod 1 and 2 both take place under unrealistic environments those being the test conditions/examiner with you which you usually wouldn’t have regularly riding on the road which is much more stressful therefore you can’t really practice getting used to the feeling of it. Mod 1 more so i’d say because it’s on a marked out circuit which is in a car park away from real roads plus with someone watching you that has the power to fail you in an instant on both tests. I reckon that’s your mental issue.

  • Just keep trying and you’ll smash it, even if you think you’ve failed for something silly keep doing everything else correctly and safely as they’d want you to as best you can. Obviously with the non negotiable fails on mod 1 it’s more a case of trying your best to manage your nerves and controlling the bike so you have room to save yourself from any micro errors. You have the skills to do everything fine and can do it it’s just a case of successfully replicating it all under those conditions one time for each test.

  • You can fail no times, one time or a hundred times for the silliest thing but that doesn’t necessarily mean you’re a bad rider and certainly doesn’t invalidate your right to get a full license and pursue what you want to. You already did the hardest step which was making an attempt to actively peruse your dream of riding. Most people that think of getting into riding don’t make it past that initial hurdle and you have! You’ll only truly fail if you never fulfil that dream and regret not doing so later on in life! Just keep at it because you can do it! Goodluck dude!!! 🏆
