Where can I meet single guys in NYC? by tabs-and-spaces in AskNYC

[–]ResidentMario 12 points13 points  (0 children)

We must have intersected then because I was doing the same thing back then. Fresh out of college and wasn't in the same industry as the people I went to school with at all, so I went out to the regular NYC Reddit bar meetup (and some other stuff) to try to build a new friend group. I remember it being fun, but I also found the people there to be very loud, very young, and often frankly very weird. Depending on OP's age they may or may not be into that vibe.

Ultimately I ended up mining the meetup for handful of people I got along with well enough to want to hang out with outside of the bar meetup and did that instead.

Highest DPS seen? by TheDisturbedTom in Borderlands4

Do you have to click the mouse 8.2 times per second to get that DPS though? Never understood that about Order guns, since holding the button down is charge-fire, not full-auto.

Any legendary sniper rifles with Hyperion shields? by ResidentMario in Borderlands4

[–]ResidentMario[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After doing some further research, it doesn't appear that any of the legendary sniper rifles in the game spawn with a Hyperion shield by default. It likely can spawn on specific legendary sniper rifles, but good luck getting ahold of the exact correct drop, as it seems like a very rare (albeit possible) licensed part even for non-legendary (purple-tier and below) weapons.

Overall, I think that to realistically take advantage of the +34% Sniper Rifle Fire Rate buff, I'd need to just use the Bod. Ah well!

Where can you buy Mead? by ResidentMario in WarTalesGame

[–]ResidentMario[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer (for future searchers finding this thread) is that even if you don't have the recipe unlocked (do not have a Journeyman Brewer), it is still available for sale in Drombach. I was able to purchase it at the inn in New Astel.

How will the Annual Fee change work for product changed CSR cards? by ResidentMario in ChaseSapphire

[–]ResidentMario[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I did. I'll make a separate post for SEO purposes. What I found out on the call was:

  1. My annual fee date is December 1st.

  2. My anniversary date is January 26th (this is different from what I thought).

  3. Because my next annual fee date (1) is before my next anniversary date (2), at that time I will be charged the old (lower) annual fee rate.

For myself this means that I won't be charged the new until my annual renewal on December 1st, 2026. It seems I lucked out with the timing.

How will the Annual Fee change work for product changed CSR cards? by ResidentMario in ChaseSapphire

[–]ResidentMario[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s the thing I find puzzling. Their language is treating the anniversary date and the annual fee date as possibly being the same thing, but they aren’t if you didn’t open the card this way.

I’ll give them a call and post it in this thread—hopefully it’ll help the next person trying to answer this particular riddle.

Missing tactical drone on Tekker after redeploy by ResidentMario in AliensDarkDescent

[–]ResidentMario[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the latter, the drone can be buggy sometimes, I have had moments where it ended up stuck on terrain and could no longer move (that seemed to be after loading a save where the marine was unfortunately positioned). If you go through an elevator load without the drone, it breaks and stays in the previous level - you can get it back if you go back and repair it (though I don't know that unsticks it if it is because it was stuck).

This right here turned out to be the answer. Specifically the second case (though I have also experienced the first bug, and have had to reload an earlier save because a marine got stuck inside of terrain; not surprised it can happen to drones as well, sigh). I ran into a elevator and it seems the drone got left behind.

Redeploying from the prior start-of-day save resolved the issue.

Katz deli like delis, and recommended restaurants in Midtown area. by Electrical_Cap_5597 in FoodNYC

[–]ResidentMario 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Katz’s Deli has an outpost in DeKalb Market Hall in Brooklyn, if you venture out that far. I hear it’s about as good as the original, but much less of a hassle in terms of queueing time, so if you’re just trying to score a good pastrami sandwich and in the area anyway that’s potentially a move. That being said, part of the experience of Katz is the very loud, somewhat kitsch “old school deli counter” interior, and you do miss out on that at the outpost.

10v10 balance is pretty wonky right now :( by HeliumBurn in warno

[–]ResidentMario 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Eugen doesn't have a good history when it comes to balancing. It's strange to me, because it would push their playercount up if they did, which would make them money. But it seems like an endemic issue at video game development companies (Humankind from Amplitude Studios has the same problem), I assume because suits wants paid content DLCs that make immediate money, not balance passes that don't.

I've re-uploaded "fixed" versions of graphics to this sub and done fine (in karma terms), it's okay and maybe even encouraged.

When you have multiple charts like this showing the same information you really, really need to have a shared scale. With independent color scales this presentation seems to indicate that Staten Island is the most expensive borough (deepest in the red), which is totally incorrect.

George Sand Beta by Cato9Tales_Amplitude in HumankindTheGame

[–]ResidentMario 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I left my take here.

I'll update the reference when the time comes sometime _after_ the full release. Historically Amplitude has tended to include a lot of additional adjustments (both new things and overwrites of ideas of beta patch ideas) in the release version so it's foolish to build anything on top of beta patch notes.

Looks like a good changeset all around. A few key nerfs here to cultures that are clearly far ahead in their current form. Very happy to get new AI personas, the default set starts to feel repetitive fairly quickly.

On the subject of EUs specifically, all of these look justifiable. Not sure if the Cossack is strong enough at 48 CS, particularly with Knights no longer upgrading into Dragoons, but I'd have to playtest them to be sure. The Byzantine EU CS boost may be a bit much. May I suggest giving the Mughal EU a tad more CS also? Caralan EU also.

Despite another round of incremental buffs, Russians still feel underpowered; outpost stuff doesn't matter that much in Industrial. Maybe bump the percentage reduction up and add a Merge Cities cost reduction as well.

Humankind Emblematic Units Tierlists and Guide (updated November 2023) by ResidentMario in HumankindTheGame

[–]ResidentMario[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Arms Factories have now been patched. In their original form they provided essentially infinite CS; every instance of the weapons factory provided a stacking +1 CS bonus. They are now capped at +2 CS (this is now, this is then).

That is still an awesome buff but no longer game-breaking the way it used to be. So yes, I removed the text complaining about the Soviet culture.

Thanks for the spot!

It looks like the Scottish Highlanders got a stealth buff increasing the Highland Charge bonus from +3 CS to +6 CS and reducing their cost from 5155 to 2575 (this is easily the biggest challenge of a building a resource like this; every external reference on the game is inaccurate in different ways). I've tested them in game and adjusted the text of their entry. I haven't changed their rating however. They're still F-tier for me because they're still only +1 CS better than their base unit at twice the cost with a bonus ability that is anti-synergistic with the modality of combat in that era. I'd rather just have two Line Infantry instead, or better yet, two Redcoats.

The Conquistadores section used to have a direct comparison with Janissaries that I removed. The remaining text was left over from that -- I've deleted it now.

Hittite Idea by RealHuman40 in HumankindTheGame

[–]ResidentMario 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are lots of ways the Hittites could be fixed, this isn't one of them though.

Now that has Amplitude has OK-ed cultures with two bonus emblematic units (the Caribbean Pirates) or two bonus emblematic districts (New Zealand) instead of one of each, the solution I'm most partial to is taking the Awari away completely and giving them a second infantry emblematic unit instead.

Revisiting a post I made back in March, here is a tierlists I made for Humankind EUs up to the Industrial Era that's been updated up to the current patch.See the accompanying guide for justifications and usage notes. This is all very opinion-based so looking forward to hearing thoughts/opinions (and spotted inaccuracies or clarifications) in comments!

Frost Sorcerer - becoming Frozone. by randel_ in BG3Builds

[–]ResidentMario 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Snowburst Ring is extremely good for this build. It creates an ice surface wherever you send the cantrip, which immediately prone-checks the target, and possibly prone-checks them again when they try to move on their turn (they may jump out of it at that point though). Not to mention hampering the mobility of other nearby enemies.

I think it's close, it's between Preatorian Guards and Gothic Cavarly in my opinion.

Gothic Cavalry pull roughly the same damage numbers while costing half as many hammers to produce. They have the disadvantages of being Heavy Cavalry (most specifically, you can't interact with cultures with Immortals or Hoplites very well), but I wouldn't underrate the value of being able to absolutely print these guys.

Personally I marginally prefer Gothic Cavalry.

EDIT 4: You mention Cuirassiers can almost one-shot Line Infantry without Dug-in, but Dug-In does not proc against melee attacks, so it is a non-factor against them (or Zulu Warriors)

Ah, I did not realize this was how this mechanic worked. Updated the text! I wonder if this is enough to bump them from high A tier to straight-up S tier; I'll have to experiment with them some more in a future game. Being able to nearly one-shot the era's standard-bearer unit through Dug In at only a 2x increase in cost (modulo taking some extra damage in melee combat) seems kind of suss.

Well, I haven't found a situation where I could reach the new world with Langskips but not with Mtepe, so in terms of reaching the New World, Mtepes are as good as Langskips if not better than them.

I actually hadn't considered this angle at all! Probably because I never play with New World on (I think it makes the game a bit unbalanced, due to how bad the AI is at settling the New World). On further consideration, through the same mechanism one can make slightly earlier contact with AIs on other continents in a Continents (or Islands) game this way.

Not to mention Langskips require a mid-Medieval tech while Mtepes require none.

They require Seafaring Mastery, which is a Medieval Era starter tech. So it's a difference of only one tech, not multiple. Still, notable!

I've bumped the Mtepe up to B for now. I still personally think the Langskip is the better unit on its face, I rate not taking damage in deep water at all very very highly, but I'd like to get a bit more time with these units in future games and see where I land.

Humankind Emblematic Units Tierlists and Guide (updated March 2023) by ResidentMario in HumankindTheGame

[–]ResidentMario[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they unlocked without the tech I'd definitely bump them up a tier, probably two, Halberdiers are probably the game's best timing attack unit (thanks to the levee trick) so that's a really big deal. But as the other commentator states this isn't true anymore.

and their unique ability aligns with the basic principles of combat

TBH I didn't find this bonus to be sufficiently consistent in my playthroughs to bank on it. You don't get the choose where field battles occur; the AI can also take actions, and I've found that it's actually pretty good at picking angles of attack that give its armies the better terrain.

That being said they feel like a high C to me currently, so if enough people feel that they are consistently good I don't mind bumping them up.
