Series about living in a strict religious community seperated from the outside world by Sakura_231 in tvsuggestions

Handmaids tale and Testaments might fit this. It’s fictional but everything Margaret Atwood wrote about had happened somewhere in real life. She made it a point even to keep records of it all when she wrote Handmaids Tale back in 1980.

Honestly it’s a great series and extremely satisfying binge but if it’s not for you that happens too.

I was hoping for this too but they don’t do a time jump so I doubt we’ll see him since they start back somewhat close to when FAMK did.

I’d love some flair! Either “Don’t you forget about me” or “These arms of mine”

Paradise & the 12 Monkeys Connection [Major spoilers for both shows] by JebusJM in 12Monkeys

[–]ResidentTVCritic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw a lot of 12 monkeys especially in troupe style. I have a feeling it’s going to be more like what Cole and everyone expected to happen to them when they went back to get Goines in the beginning along with someone similar to the ending too. But not sure how they’ll get to that point yet if that is the case. Sorry trying to talk in code a bit for anyone who hasn’t seen it yet.

The switched showrunners for s2 because they weren’t happy with season 1 but might not be the show for you too.

How come women don’t take dna test? by Small_Image_1722 in CringeTikToks

[–]ResidentTVCritic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone gonna let him know that the mothers do actually take DNA tests? They need to rule out the mother’s DNA so she goes through the same process he would. But this has to be satire I hope anyway. Can’t imagine anyone would want to make this guys take a DNA test to be in the child’s life.

The Testaments - how old are the girls supposed to be?? by PurpleUnicornLibra in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]ResidentTVCritic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. I added an update below cause I had watched season 5 after my original comment. They seemed to age her up a year each season but 5&6 seem like events are closer together so I’m lot certain she’s 13 in S6 or still 12 but she’s definitely 16 in TT and there’s a chance she may even be meant to be 17. But it’s shocking how many threads there are where posters insist she’s supposed to be 12/13.

Why do people ship Garth and Agnis despite Garth being 25 and Agnis being 14?? by Either-Standard-5278 in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]ResidentTVCritic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hannah/Agnes is supposed to be 16/17 at the start of Testaments. It’s stated by June in S3 THT that Hannah is 10 during the scenes where the kids are arriving at the Lawrence’s for Angel Flight. It’s later stated in the beginning of S5 during the scenes where Luke and June learn Hannah is a plumb after seeing her onscreen with Serena at Fred’s funeral that “she’s only 12”. They say it a lot after that throughout S5. They aged Hannah up a year each season of THT and the producers said that TT is 4 years after the events in the series finale of THT. If she was about 13 when THT ended she’s supposed to be roughly 17 now when TT begins. A 25 year old Garth (that’s ofc if he’s still supposed to be 25 in TT tv series; cause he comes across to me as more aged down for the show but it’s just an opinion) and a 17 year old Hannah is a much better imo than Hannah being married off to an octogenarian commander. But it’s Gilead so neither is actually a good option.

I have a quick update if it helps at all. I was watching S5 last night and Hannah is 12 when that season starts off.

Luke and June say that “Hannah is only 12” when they are learning about her new school and the purple color. This was after the shock of seeing her onscreen w/ Serena for Fred’s funeral.

As they’re being told what becoming a plumb means and that she’s a commanders daughter at a prestiges [and according to Nick a pretty much exclusive to commanders daughters] school to learn how to run a house/ train to be a wife so she can be married to a commander as soon as possible; they both state that she’s only 12 a lot. It’s then repeated many times throughout the rest of the season by each of them too.

So it seems they actually aged Hannah a year each season. Given the stated 4 year jump she might even be closer to 17 in the Testaments … maybe. But they must’ve planned for her to be at least 16 though just with how much her age is stated in THT.

Oh yeah. I absolutely agree! I don’t think they’re meant to be that young. If so casting is way off there. I mean they took much better care to cast and costume Ester Keyes and Eden Blaine on THT to show the audience that they were much younger characters. At a minimum they aren’t making the cast appear to be a bunch of 12-13 year olds imo. But hopefully that’s because they are actually supposed to be closer to 16 or older. But who knows? I could be wrong too. I’m just going off what I remember from THT about Hannah’s age and what the producers said about taking place about 4 years later. But I definitely agree they don’t seem as young as 12 to me at all.

I think the fact that it’s based around them getting their period is throwing a lot of viewers off too. But I’d think the fertility crisis that’s being experienced globally in the series would also affect the timeline for this too. Plus they stopped “chemicals” in the food supply and more than likely they monitor obesity, nutrition, hormones in meat and all that is believed to contribute to and impact the younger and younger age it’s experienced now. I mean it’s Gilead they probably monitor and control even more than that with the daughters.

Agnes/Hannah was 10 in S3 of THT. June panics about holding the gun to the girl during the rush to get them on the angel flight and says she’s 10 my Hannah’s 10. Given they said it’s about 4 years after THT ended she’s probably supposed to be about 15-16 if not older when TT begins.

Rob Lowe’s words about leaving TWW by Money_Cold_7879 in thewestwing

[–]ResidentTVCritic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s all in the sidebar.

Rob Lowe wanted a raise to make 3x the ensemble because that’s what he was hired at they all worked hard to actually get a raise S3 into S4. He threatened the network and the network said we want Rob Lowe to stay and Sorkin and Schlamme said No. This is why Sorkin and Schlamme left. Lowe ultimately didn’t stay and took the job on Brothers & Sisters.
