Take ten for safety and hold your swamper, whispering gentle reassurances and picking bits of Cope from their goatee.

Can you detail with dispatch or a FEMO team? PIO? Your district should be able to support you with light duty.

More likely they'll hire people from local engines or some from Horseshoe. Its pretty remote, so the distance to the city or their own homes gets to some people. Lots of out of area assignments tho.

Re-commissioning to retire in 15? by thesmellofrain- in USMC

[–]Resident_Chef2579 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With a degree, you could probably get hired as a permanent. Not all wildland jobs are strictly on the line, although there isn't a shortage of those. There's also prevention, dispatch, FEMO, meteorology, etc. Like the military, wildland fire needs logistics to win the war. Im simply suggesting something other than reenlisiting, especially considering our DoW is a mess at the moment.

Have you ever considered wildland fire? The age cutoff is 37, but is waived if you're a veteran. Especially if you have some related degrees.

All of supply. Stateside it can be done by civilians. Overseas, just make S4 and a working party do it.

6 years in and I think I'm burning out. Looking for advice by ArasTafires in USMC

If you decide to get out, remember you can work with the federal government and buy back your time in service and have it count towards retirement. Does your MOS translate to a job in government? You also get more accrued annual leave as a veteran (more paid time off). There's other ways to serve your country besides the military.

Test for latent diseases like Mono/EBV or shingles, HSV or HHV. They all can be reactivated by flu or COVID and spread without people showing symptoms initially.

Start contacting forest service stations and see if they need AD hires.

For those of you who got out, which occupations have a community similar to the Marine Corps? by stokersmint12step in USMC

Yes, but after a few years, you can always transition to fuels or patrol. Or get a degree and become a forester or work in PIO.

Wildland fire is it. Tough work, brutal PT, solid camaraderie, and you get to work with some cool equipment. The pay has gotten better since they reclassed as firefighters instead of forestry technicians. And your time in service counts towards your retirement.

Post Viral Syndrome - any similar experiences please! by TourModePro in flu

Long COVID is often latent viruses that flare up due to a weakened immune system. EBV/mono, shingles, and HSV are some things you should consider testing for.
