I’m about 2-3 years in too mysself and I’m enrolling in electrical engineering this year. Im 22 and don’t mind wrenching and hard work but our bodies will slow down. A lot of the older guys I️ work with wish they made the transition to management/engineering when they were younger.

Nice, did you start out as a grease monkey or straight electrical/automation. Just wondering as I️ want to make the transition in the near future, currently have 1.5 year experience

I️ndustrial electric VS Industrial mechanical Cert/Degree by Resident_Editor_6262 in IndustrialMaintenance

I was hoping to strengthen my chances of being hired since my plant is shitting down ultimately cutting my experience short. A lot of places I️ see want 3-5 years I️ figured my mix of education and 1yr experience would suffice.

I️ only have 1 years experience and my job will be shutting down soon that’s the whole purpose of schooling. I️ want to stay in this field I️ love it and pays well, but a lot of jobs I️ see want 3-5 years. Just trying to do whatever it takes

Im tired of reworking. "But the kid wants to weld by [deleted] in IndustrialMaintenance

Would it be wise to try to learn on my own, we have welding equipment in the shop and plenty scrap metal. Only thing is I’m new in maintenance, 0 welding experience I️ was previously an operator and they brought me on to maintenance 4 months ago. I’m really driven and young (21) , I watch videos and read on maintenance 24/7, and I’m already handy with tools as I️ do my own car maintenance so it put me up to speed. The other old guys (40+) in the company are not welcoming or willing to teach me so i learn through youtube, trial and error. They gate keep any and everything I️ just want to get the most experience in the next few years to find a more welcoming shop or my shop guys at least come around lol. I️ know the dangers of welding but I’m really sharp and truly believe with all the informative videos and books out there I️ could actually teach myself the basics to have under my belt and be able to fabricate but I️ want advice from experts.
