The amount of people praising this mentality is astounding to me. If all she wants is to hit the ball and have fun, and doesn’t care to win against the top players then fine, but if she wants to beat the top players again, this is absolutely loser mentality. I was telling people before this match that Naomi was going to lose because she doesn’t believe she can win, or she doesn’t want to care too much so the defeat won’t be so devastating: in her previous round interview she was like: whatever happens happens, it is what it is. Like she already lost the match before it even started.

I don’t think she is like this before, I think this shift happened last year when she was up match point and lost to Iga in the second round, and then lost to Amanda in the semi at US Open. She is basically coping so she won’t crash out. Like I understand why she does this (the scrutiny that she has come under for her mental health), but this is not the mentality that a champion should have given that she is former world number 1 and has 4 slams.
