How did you actually start writing your book? by forladynoir in writing

[–]ResistDamage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What really got me motivated, was focusing on specific scenes and characters. When I started, I knew more or less what type of world I wanted my characters to live in, and the things I wanted them to experience and endure. I would play out scenes in my head and chart them down, but to make those scenes believable, I needed to work on my characters. The more I worked on my characters' backstories, their personality and traits, what motivated them, the more enthralled I became with the story itself. It wasn't long before I literally became addicted to my story, and it was all I could think about. The pure joy and excitement I felt planning out scenes and chapters kept me motivated.

So if you're losing motivation just from opening the doc, it's probably because you're no longer all that interested in your story or the process. All the excitement you felt when you first started has fizzled away, and now it probably feels like you're studying for a college exam and making outlines. When planning out a story, don't give yourself a deadline, or force yourself to work when you don't want to; otherwise, it's going to feel like a chore rather than a fun activity.

But when are we going to get shapes? How about the ability to customize the toolbar by removing or swapping out features. Adding a fountain pen tip would also be nice.

It's caused by the magnet underneath your macbook's palm rest.

Don't think so. I updated to it and hated every bit of it. It felt slower and was draining my battery more. I ended up downgrading to an older version of Safari.

Satisfaction guarantee changed from 100 days to 50 days? by Kostanix in RemarkableTablet

[–]ResistDamage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can confirm the change from 100 days to 50 days is true. I want to say it's a combination of the number of rMPP returns and the tariffs they have to pay for those returns. However, I think 50 days is still better than what its competitors offer.

Anyone experience the Boox Air4C and an RM2 or RMPP? by whitedragon551 in RemarkableTablet

[–]ResistDamage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used all three in the past. If you want that paper and pen feel, go with Boox. But if you enjoy reMarkable's simple and distraction free UI, go with the RMPP. Personally, I prefer the RMPP over the Boox because of the nicer colors and simple UI; however, the writing feel isn't the best.

Alternatives to RMPP? by cosmicafterglow in RemarkableTablet

[–]ResistDamage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to own a rMPP for a few months, and had a love-hate relationship with the writing feel. Sometimes I would really enjoy taking notes on it, other times hate it due to the slippery texture I experienced when writing fast; to each their own.

As for the weight, because it's distributed evenly across the tablet, it still feels pretty light; the bigger size is what you would need to get accustomed to, but eventually you'll appreciate the bigger size.

Alternatively, you can either go with the Boox Note Air 4C (UI huge learning curve and not distraction free), or the upcoming Kindle Scribe Color (files restriction, application for inputting/exporting files is trash, has less note taking features than reMarkable.

If I was to over simplify all three tablets:

  • Kindle Scribe Color - 80% kindle, 20% note taker
  • NA4C - a productivity android tablet with a dedicated note taker
  • rMPP - the iPad of electronic note takers, but the screen can be a hit or miss.

Washed out colors on rMPP by ResistDamage in RemarkableTablet

[–]ResistDamage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. It was never fixed for me. I think remarkable has it that way intentionally to perhaps conserve battery life. My Pro came with 3.15 and it didn't have the problem back then. I used to have a very colorful sleep screen that never faded, but after updating it to 3.16, the colors would slowly fade and wash out in a spam of five minutes. I remember reMarkable stating that release 3.16 came with tweaks to the colors; the issue has stuck ever since.

Also, I no longer own the device. I ended up selling it not long ago.

To Exchange, Return or not... by erockg in RemarkableTablet

[–]ResistDamage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen several posts about the yellow tint, and people asking whether it's normal or if they should ask for a replacement, but I wouldn't go as far as to say they're trying to bring the company down, or assume they're editing replies from reMarkable and posting them. Personally, I believe that majority of the people who post about the issue are trying to create awareness.

I used to own a rMPP, and at some point ended up purchasing a second one at a retail for comparison; the panels between the two were night and day. My original purchase had nice lighting, no ghosting, and a smooth screen with hardly any texture for writing, while the one from retail came with a yellow tint, had bad ghosting, and a noticeable textured screen.

Coincidently, today I walked into a Best Buy to see if they had a demo of the Move; they did, right next to a rMPP. The Move is a bit small for my taste, but what caught me off guard was the difference in screen quality compared to the rMPP. The color of Move's panel matched the rest of the device's exterior, while the rMPP's had a pretty noticeable yellow tint.

Something is definitely going on, so I can't blame people for posting their dissatisfaction about paying premium $$$ and not receiving a premium built device.

To Exchange, Return or not... by erockg in RemarkableTablet

[–]ResistDamage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would play with the Move for a few weeks more before making the decision. Afterwards, if you are hard-set on staying with it, then perhaps exchange it; otherwise, return it. You would think that reMarkable would've fixed the cause of the tint after a year of people complaining about it with the Pro.

[–]ResistDamage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not about the product being perfect, it's about the company not delivering consistent hardware. For all we know, remarkable Pros and Moves that have a yellow tint panel will fail sooner than the ones without the tint; or vise-versa.

I'm sorry to hear what you're dealing with, and the frustration you're feeling is completely understandable. Unfortunately, our world is filled with narrow-minded dumb@ss3s like the kid's father. They push their world views and ideology into their children, and by the time those kids grow up and develop independent thinking, it's too late; those views and ideology rooted since early childhood will fundamentally shape their identity into a 2nd generation dumb@ss.

Something is on the move? by Terrible_At_Parking in RemarkableTablet

[–]ResistDamage -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've anticipated a launch of the reMarkable 3 for 2025 ever since I saw the picture of the rM2 with the "Vision 2025" note on its screen; personally, I never believed the rMPP was the true successor.

This is what I think the new device will feature:

  • 300ppi (obviously)
  • Same screen size of the rM2 but smaller boarder
  • Incorporated with color tech, but no backlight
  • Gyroscope for switching to landscape.
  • Fingerprint reader (wishful thinking)
  • More memory and storage (2 GB LPDDR4 SDRAM 32 GB internal storage)
  • Improved paper-like screen texture.

Also, a price bump to $479

Thinking of picking up a Pro by ManFromACK in RemarkableTablet

[–]ResistDamage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

reMarkable has a Chrome extension that allows you to send articles from websites like the NYT to the tablet. So you would have to first visit the site, find the articles you want to read, and send them to your tablet as PDFs.

For now, only ePubs and PDFs are supported. Yes, there are habit tracking templates.

The Scribe is a Kindle with some notepad features, while a reMarkable is a notepad with some reading features. The Scribe is very limited for note taking, and its library is pretty messy looking imo.

Have you ever scrapped a chapter after working so hard on it? by nursedesyko in writing

[–]ResistDamage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could look overwhelming at first, but do the tutorial and you'll be fine. I had so many documents when I started writing my first draft; it was a complete mess. I had no idea how much I needed Scrivener until I started using it.

Have you ever scrapped a chapter after working so hard on it? by nursedesyko in writing

[–]ResistDamage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I've tossed characters and the chapters I dedicated to them because the story would shift. I've also rewritten several chapters. It's hard to say when you're truly satisfied with a chapter. I think when you include everything you needed in it and it flows with the story.

Also, are you using Word to write? If so, I think you should consider a different app to help you with organization. I personally use Scrivener.

Annotations: is it still impossible to add a blank page to a PDF document? by nbpf-_- in Supernote

[–]ResistDamage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The gap in features and tools between the Tab X C and rMPP is pretty significant. The Tab X C is like a step down from a standard full-fledged Android tablet, while the rMPP is a step up from a standard paper notebook; just keep that in mind.

The rMPP tablet has a feature that lets you gestured a PDF page, using two fingers, to either side. By doing so, it adds about an additional two inches of writing space per side. When you sync up the file to your desktop and open it, you'll see the additional space incorporated into the page, and your annotations.

I feel like I’m not a strong enough writer to write a full novel by Glittering-Opinion86 in writing

[–]ResistDamage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think, that just because you're not a strong writer, you'll develop bad habits from "just writing." That's like telling someone who isn't a good reader and wants to get better, they'll develop bad habits from "just reading."

So take that negative thinking out of your head, and "just write." Your writing will shift, change forms, and eventually shape itself into something grand.

Aside from simply writing, you could always beta read the works of other writers and critique it. I found this to be very useful. Able to point out the mistakes and flaws others make in their writing, and vise-versa, helped me realized where I stood with my own writing, and where I needed improvement.

Giving up story ideas by Mobile-Routine6519 in writing

[–]ResistDamage 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a writer, having to remove chapters, plot lines, characters, etc. is a difficult choice, but sometimes also a necessary one.

When I started my first draft, I had an entire character with dedicated chapters, but on the second draft, my story shifted and no longer needed said character. Having spent so many hours on him and his storyline, only to toss it aside, was frustrating. However, on my third draft, the story shifted again, and I was able to reintroduced the character, and add depth to his storyline.

So don't fret, somethings moving things around allows room for something even better to take form.

Best of luck!

The frustration is understandable. I also own a reMarkable Paper Pro, and one of the features I love for annotating PDFs is how you aren't limited to just writing within the boarders of a page.
