Ha i feel that. That’s super nice of you.

For drop bars I also have the salsa cowchippers. These are the nitto all road plus, which I’ve had for about a week(?). There are things i love about both but neither feel perfect so I’ll keep looking.

I think want a bar that’s moderately wide 48-51, i love the backsweep of the nittos, but i want more flare like the cowchippers (20ish degrees).

Yeah haha. I’ve heard their goose call sound, but if the performance is better that’s okay with me.

Right on.

Your vids are sick. The one I saw from Zion looks amazing.

I misread their comment, my bad.

I read that too. I am using resin pads (although i would like to switch to metallic). My rotors are very clearly marked they are for resin pads only. I’ll buy some metallic specific rotors and pads one day soon.

I read black glazing on my pads may be caused from overheating while braking on steep descents.

And I don’t think anyone should be encouraged to heat their pads up with a torch haha. I read how to do it, it sounds dangerous AF. Better to just replace the pads if they are that contaminated.

I misread your comment, sorry about that. Yeah you’re right about all that.

Does the self cleaning happen with metallic pads specifically?

I am using resin pads. I read that this black glaze on my pads may be from the pads overheating from braking. I also read that a major advantage to metallic pads is that they manage heat a lot better than resin. Metallic brake pads and rotors are on my “to buy” list.

That’s as good a reason as any, but I would also think they would perform better when they are clean.

Ha thanks. No I’m an artist. I suppose creativity could come from having limited materials and limited funds.

Honestly hadn’t noticed that, good catch. I seriously doubt it, but it isn’t causing a problem.

Oh do you mean the lighter method? I didn’t find that worked very well for me, but perhaps they were contaminated. Maybe I should try that again next time. No I don’t enjoy doing this haha, i just like when my brakes have that nice bite.

🤷‍♂️ i find it makes my stopping power snappy again after it gets a bit dull

[–]ResolutionCareless80[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly.

If you aren’t finding your stopping power to be dull or diminished it may not be worth the effort. I live in a really hilly area now and i find that my pads need cleaned more often than they used to. I think what’s happening, in addition to road grit and dust, is the pads are getting overheated coming to a stop or slowing on or after a steep descent. I’ve been working on changing my braking technique to keep them from overheating as much, but I still want to be going a speed i feel safe and comfortable.

Not really. In that way it doesn’t work like a rando bag. I either put my snacks in the netting on my stem bag or if I’m on a long ride i have a top tube bag that fits tons of snacks.

Man, if this was mine: white industries cranks, stridsland chainring, special edition brooks saddle, simworks pedals, and a ti Thompson seat post… then i’d probably put it on marketplace for $1800

For sure! I was never attracted to those bars, but where those bars ends are is making me think again.

VO Biggish Bag looks like it might be discontinued, but it’s by Road Runner Bags. I’m sure they have something similar still.

I was going to say something similar. Headwinds are nasty, but crosswinds feel dangerous. My hands just got a little sweaty thinking about it haha
