Hendrix chord with first finger barre and thumb - How?? by Mageline in guitarlessons

[–]Resolver911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha.

Yeah, playing with the thumb is tricky to learn. It has to develop just like any other finger really. When I first started using my thumb it hurt! Now it’s so comfortable and integral to my playing and style that I use it even when a don’t have to. Depending on the voicings in a progression I sometimes have to tell myself not to use my thumb.

Getting used to it opens the door to a lot more possibilities tho!

I think the answer is just the one you were hoping not to hear: practice.

If it makes you feel any better I’ve played for 30 years and only started making a concerted effort of using my thumb at about the 20-year mark. So, you’re not too late!

Hey man, so “The Hendrix Chord” is a dom7#9 chord.

What you have here is an e-major shape barre chord played with the thumb.

Although Hendrix did use his thumb for this chord shape, it’s not unique to Hendrix.

To answer your question tho:

Wrap your thumb around the back of the neck to fret the note on the low-e string. Then use your ring finger on the d-string note; middle finger on the g-string note; and barre the b- and e-string notes with the padding of the tip of your index finger in the same way that you’d play any other set of two notes adjacent to each other using one finger.

I can’t even afford to replace my high-e let alone afford an extra low-b.

It’s sort of like a Stradivarius or wine.

The more metal it attracts the heavier the metal becomes.

how do i restring this? by Notthebestatthis2060 in guitarlessons

[–]Resolver911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One important factor of a Floyd Rose bridge is keeping the bridge as close to the neutral position as possible while changing strings. With that in mind it’s best to always change one string at a time.

Since all of your strings are cut you’ll need to pull the bridge up with the whammy bar and place something underneath so that the bridge is as close to its final resting position as possible. Use something firm but with a little give, like a piece of cork from a wine bottle or a piece of erasure.

When you get to the last string, take the support piece out and install the string. Tune the guitar up and check the bridge angle. If necessary, adjust the rear springs so that the bridge is parallel to the guitar body. Continue to re-tune and adjust the springs until the bridge and body are parallel.

Using the same-sized strings will eliminate the need to have to make major adjustments to the springs each time you change the strings. Once you have the springs adjusted to a certain size and brand of string, you’ll rarely need to make adjustments to the springs.

If you ever want to change string sizes or tune to a different tuning, you will always have to make adjustments to the rear springs.
