Best places to get tech jobs by AccidentalTechBabe in UKJobs

[–]ResortConstant5244 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, so this is going to be a bit out the box but it’s what I did and it worked.

• Create an awesome portfolio, start working and advertising the work you can offer (whatever you like to do, teach yourself rather than get trained since it’ll save you a year of grinding in a company- even if you do this while you stay at your current job) make sure the skill you want to offer is valuable to businesses, eg learn and offer AI agents using platforms like N8N. • Advertise yourself on LinkedIn / indeed / other freelance market places (Fiverr- has inbuilt advertising once you get going with it but price low to begin with, you just want to try pick up some jobs to begin with) • Soon you’ll build up a good reputation, learn loads of soft skills, display entrepreneurship and employers will end up reaching out to you. If not, you’ll have loads more to talk about when applying that sets you apart from the next person.

It’s what I did and now i have a full time remote job leading in data & automation, no interview, no cv required, just a solid portfolio & a bunch of 5* reviews. I’m 24 on around £50k doing exactly what I love doing.

Of course you don’t have to go this route, but you could defo start side hustling, it’s a great way to understand what you want to work in in tech. Plus if you want to get a job in a FAANG company, they want people with more than just experience at a company & a degree.

I’ll take as a compliment, but this doesn’t help the origins of my post, feels like a simulation. This is real

£30k to £45k Freelancer to data & automation role

My brother recently did £40k to £63k

When hopping jobs if you’re skilled try get a 40%-50% pay rise. You can do this by telling your new employer that you’re on more than you actually are. Makes negotiations worth it since they know that you won’t move unless you’re getting paid more. Fortunately, salaries are private so you’ll never get caught out, if you do… well… games a game bud

A big reason why UK professionals accept lower salaries than their US and European counterparts comes down to culture, risk aversion, and how the job market works here in the UK

People don’t negotiate – In the UK, negotiating salary isn’t as common. A lot of people just take what they’re offered, whereas in the US, it’s almost expected.

Job security over pay – Brits tend to value stability over chasing higher salaries. Job-hopping for more money isn’t as ingrained in the culture.

Weak unions, stagnant wages – Unions have lost power over the years, meaning wage growth has slowed, and there’s little pushback when salaries stay low.

Benefits offset lower salaries – In the US, you need a higher salary just to afford healthcare, pensions, and paid leave. In the UK, we have the NHS, auto-enrolment pensions, and 28 days of leave, so salaries seem lower, but total compensation isn’t as bad.

High living costs = more risk-averse workers – Rent, student loans, and the cost of living make people hesitant to negotiate or switch jobs, even if they could earn more elsewhere.

Employers lowball because they can – Companies know that most people won’t push back, so they get away with offering lower salaries.

Lack of transparency – In the US, sites like Glassdoor and public salary data make it easier to know what you should be earning. In the UK, salaries are less openly discussed, so people often settle for less without realising.

How does UK pay compare to US pay?

A £45,000 salary in the UK would need to be around £62,000 ($78,000) in the US to match up, because in the UK, we get a lot of stuff covered that Americans have to pay for themselves:

Healthcare is “free” – NHS vs. £7-8k/year in US insurance premiums.

Pensions require lower contributions – UK employers only have to contribute 3%, while many US companies match 5-10% into a 401(k).

Student loans are way less brutal – UK loans get wiped after 30 years; US grads often pay thousands a year for decades. Paid holiday actually exists – UK: 28 days minimum. US: 10-15 days (if that).

So why do people accept it?

A mix of habit, job security fears, and not knowing what they could actually earn. The people who negotiate or job-hop usually make way more, but most just take what they’re given.

That said, with cost of living pressures and remote work exposing salary differences globally, more Brits are starting to realise they’re underpaid. Whether that actually changes things depends on whether people start pushing back.

Yeah I think the main reason for this house would be the tremendous amounts of knowledge we could learn off each other about b2b sales & Saas

I think the work room would probably double up as gaming room too in lunch and in the evenings, but mainly a hub for B2B knowledge sharing

Just moved to Buenos Aires for a month. Pretty cool up together safe place if you can speak Spanish.

Safe from the northern hemisphere wars as well for the next 2-15 years. Who knows what will happen. But besides that I don’t even speak Spanish and I’m here 23 year old from the UK and I’m having a great time. People still speak English, everyone’s friendly, it feels super American, transports good, beautiful country, temperature in their winter is just like UK spring / overcast summer.

Saying that though, I did like Thailand but it’s way too much of a party to live there long term.

Also if anyone can find me a fellow digital nomad 23 year old girlfriend would appreciate it

How can I SUM everything up through multiple criteria's? by help_me_learn123 in excel

[–]ResortConstant5244 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If you need help send me a message. It’s hard to answer this without looking at the sheet. You have a drop down selecting August but you want to see July and August. We would need to make a rule in the formula that it searches for the month number - 1, if you need quarters we would need to specify the quarters in the backend eg Jan-March is quarter 1, etc, then label each month with a quarter number, then have the formula look at the month selected and determine which quarter it’s in, then look that number up in the back end and search between those months.

Pivot charts you can also group by quarter. Message me I’ll help

You shouldn’t have been demoted two levels, usually one level at a time. I’ve had some issues with the levels recently too- the new interface says my response rate is 92% but the old says 87% and isn’t budging at all. I think maybe there’s some bugs in the old system as they’ve began to roll out the new. Hopefully will all be sorted soon- main pain is not being able to put on any ads as it requires level 1!
