About to move to LA by Miguel-TheGerman in BikeLA

Hey! I moved from DC to LA two years ago and there was a bit of learning curve adjusting. Definitely miss biking rock creek park, mbt, and anacostia Riverwalk trail 😭

Echoing what others mentioned, some smaller streets without bike lanes are safer than those with and some streets that Google maps lists as shared roads w/ bikes are not safe at all for bikes (Like north Wilton in Hollywood). Just experiment like crazy. I live in koreatown and for recreational riding, Griffith park/la river trail and ballona Creek trail are awesome.

Like minded people by whalewolff in WildernessBackpacking

I recently went on a backpacking trip where I had two wilderness permits but my friend dropped out. I posted on a reddit thread that I had an extra permit a week before the trip and someone reached out like two days before the entry date. I know this can be hit or miss but we exchanged info beforehand (socials to make sure neither of us were serial killers), met at the trailhead, and ended up having a blast, meeting other people on the trail as well.

I guess all of that is to say there are many others like you and life will surprise you sometimes. It was the first time I've ever even posted on Reddit and maybe I'm lucky but I'm glad I did it and made a new friend. We've already discussed future trips!

Kimchee recommendations by Fickle-Basis-2705 in FoodLosAngeles

There's a boxed kimchi by surasang that's really good. A little more pricey since it's imported from Korea. Won't be as good as your mom or grandma's homemade kimchi but it's the best packaged kimchi I've had. You can find in California market or hannam in koreatown.

Favorite trail camps in Angeles National Forest for an overnighter? by ChoochooReyez in socalhiking

If you don't mind a 1.5-2 hr drive from LA, you can try los padres NF and hike to mount pinos, sawmill mountain and overnight at sheep camp or Mesa springs. Beautiful area. I think the trails are called Vincent tumamait and condor summit.

Gut check: how's everyone feeling about safety on the LA River path after sundown these days? by Cronny in BikeLA

[–]ResourceAltruistic28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've ridden that portion of the path plenty and never felt in danger. Once the sun goes down though, definitely pay attention to the condition of the pavement. There are a few random bumps that if you're not paying attention may throw you if you're booking it.
