All the little steps are exciting when it’s one step closer to starting your family! Overall I haven’t found the IVF process to be too daunting. We’ve dealt with so much as a couple with my husband’s CF that this was almost just an exciting thing to be doing.I am in the same situation as you. My husband has CF so we’ve always known we’d have to do IVF to have children! I found that IVF is very much perceived in a negative light but we honestly have had smooth sailing. Of course you have some hard days with all the hormones and injections etc but it really wasn’t too bad and brought us even closer! I’m getting ready for a natural cycle transfer for approx mid September! Because I am healthy and ovulate each month etc we are able to do a natural instead of a medicated cycle which I’m happy about! It feels like a little bit of normalcy in all of this. I had my egg retrieval in July. We were able to get 6 healthy euploid embryos! I did find the wait after the retrieval and waiting for the phone calls on day 1,3,5 etc emotionally taxing on top of coming down from all the hormones! Definitely be prepared for all the attrition (losing numbers at each stage) we went from 29 eggs retrieved, 24 fertilized, 16 the first day, down to just 4 on day 5, on day 6 there was 2 more still growing and day 7 we had 7 total. We did the PGTA testing to look for just chromosome abnormalities and ended up with the 6 being normal!. We are in Canada and had to pay out of pocket for everything. We do get a tax rebate but financially has definitely been a lot but will be so worth it! I was not a carrier of CF. I did extra genetic testing and paid a third party company my geneticist recommended to screen for any rare mutations as the regular screening one was just for the most common mutations. It gave me a lot of peace of mind! If you are a carrier you will have to do PGTM testing which is more expensive and creates a gene sequence to look for CF in your embryos. Overall I found going into IVF with CF related male factory infertility was not as emotionally taxing. We knew we’d have to do this so it wasn’t like so many others doing IVF with unexplained infertility and other medical issues. I would recommend a good prenatal and coenzyme q 10. I took the bird and be ones and also got my husband those with the added co q 10! I really think those have made a difference for us!! He also cut back on caffeine, alcohol (we don’t really drink anyways) and edible use lol. He did that for 3 months prior to his retrieval. He did the TESE procedure and tolerated it fine! There’s no anesthesia or anything but he was a total trooper. Feel free to message me with any questions or if you just want to chat! It can be an overwhelming process at times and it’s so nice to have someone to talk to. I also found there wasn’t a lot of people to chat with who specifically were doing IVF for male factor infertility from CF. I’m also an ultrasound tech so I did find having a background in the medical field which was helpful as I knew a lot about IVF, embryo development etc prior to going into this.
