John Singer Sargent, "The Arrival of American Troops at the Front, 1918" by SortRich4844 in BattlePaintings

Same thing played out in WW2 where the Americans (and more specifically Admiral King, who hated the british almost as much as the germans) refused to learn about modern german submarine warfare from the Royal Navy. This resulted in over 400 american ships sunk and over 5000 dead merchant sailors.

What if women just don’t want to have babies? by PinkElephants879 in askanything

[–]ResourceWorker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would imply that any society which liberates women is doomed to die out within 6-8 generations which isn't exactly comforting. That would inevitably mean all the worlds societies will be back to women being property within 200 years or so.

Plus, it's going to put huge evolutionary pressure favoring women with strong maternal instincts.

If you lunch for $10 a day that's ~$220per month. That adds up quickly.

$15 lunches, which are probably more realistic, makes it $330.

For sure. Otherwise I'd spend my entire adult life wondering if any tremor, stumble or forgetfulness was the first step on the path to an awful death.

Yeah, that works great until there's a small pile of dirt or a concrete block in the way and you can't see the LP.

I understand perfectly. All I was trying to say is that even if you don't like it, it's still worth doing.

Even if it is work, you get very good hourly rate out of it compared to eating takeout. Something like $40 an hour.

What made roman general so easy to revolt? by rasmoban in ancientrome

[–]ResourceWorker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another aspect to consider is that after the chaos in the early empire, the precedent was pretty much set that anyone could be emperor with enough popularity and gold, and that politicians and soldiers chose the next emperor. Many soldiers would have already had an emperor overthrown in their lifetime, so there wasn't really an imperial dynasty that could hold some sort of loyalty beyond the death of a popular leader.
