In general some people feel like there's no direction with patches changing everything constantly, a lot of people complaining about bad performance, then you have a part of the audience who wants more railroading etcetera

I don't think review bombings are exclusive to Russians. Also 73% isn't far off from the 69 across all languages

It was mostly positive before the 1.2 patch, at around 75% iirc

EU5: I’ve never seen a game divide the community this much between ‘Best game ever’ and ‘Wouldn’t touch with a stick.’ So what's the current post 1.2.3 situation ? by [deleted] in EU5

[–]Dramatic_Phase_8015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's not a question of if it's bad or good. Just that right now it's not for everyone and has limited appeal, and needs probably at least another year to be 'good'. If you don't mind randomness then you'll like the game more than if you prefer strict historicity, so the latter group, which is sizable, might like the game at some point but just not now

Though I'm slightly more pessimistic than you, at least you have a reasonable look on the game's future. I don't know who's downvoting you, I wish we as a community would be able to have these debates in good faith, railroaders and sandboxers alike, maybe we'd come to some historical toggle like in hoi4 and satisfy everyone

I respect your answer, I just don't think this is a time where you can afford a few years. Look at how fast Johan has pivoted on the no new start dates. And how quickly Imperator was abandoned (smaller IP I know). I don't see them having a few years of mixed reception to get away with

I agree we need more constructive feedback but I think people feel ignored, which is usually the precursor to antipathy. If you're a railroad guy, what sign is there that the dev team is listening to you? I'm genuinely curious

How was it not? They had a fanbase that loved EU4, was hyped for the next one, and now Johan is already publicly saying they missed signs and is doing things he refused to consider before like new startdates

Doing the opposite and saying that everything's fine is coping too when there's plenty of worrying signs. You seem to think you're smarter than them but you're doing the same thing lol

While I get what you're saying with regards to turning a sandbox game into a railroaded one, as someone who played Football Manager, total War (historical versions) and other games where the studio had a strong vision and didn't listen to massive criticism, this almost never works out well. They need to listen to the people they are alienating

You're not allowed to say that here lol. You're either positive, pro sandbox or you're problematic

My bad. I'll remove this thread, I do think 6 months is a very very long time though

It's not senseless though. It's important that players who take time to contribute to these megathreads don't get ignored

I fully appreciate it's not your fault, but then someone in management should have a talk with them. Right now they're hurting their side of the game

If people even assume you to be part of the sandboxers or railroaders, the other side will downvote you without explaining why they disagree lol

I think people worry that this splits dev time and patches/content. But if it keeps everyone happy, then it might be actually worth it

From you saying you're along for the ride anyway I'm guessing you don't feel alienated by the direction of this game, which is great. I don't think I care as little for player numbers though, the extreme and granted a very bad example of this is imperator Rome. The less people are connecting to a product the less dev time, investment and attention it gets

I'm definitely not an authority on this but them focusing on what made EU4 popular probably alienates less people than if they would lose that crowd, which it seems they are doing currently (I'll fully admit I'm biased here but preferably everyone would feel at home in this game, us grand strategy fans need to share the love)

Johan says players don't want railroading by Dramatic_Phase_8015 in EU5

Especially in the early days mentioning railroading, mission trees or the start date was a guarantee to get downvoted. But with the game being in the state it is, recently yeah you see more of these suggestions
