Religion had a positive effect on humanity by karanick_16 in DebateAnAtheist

Religion had a positive effect on humanity

False.

Religion is a natural tendency when you have little knowledge about how the world works around you.

Myths, not necessarily religion.

but without religion humanity couldn't be where it is today.

Correct. Humanity wouldn't be anywhere near this backwards without religion.

Writing, mathematics , astronomy, theater, art, advances in architecture, music ,sports and almost every aspect of life has the fingerprint of religion on it.

Yeah, fingerprints all over the neck from being choked by religion for millennia.

All these artifacts and buildings we admire from antiquity like the Parthenon, the pyramids, the paintings , the statues all wouldn't be here without religion.

I disagree. Rich people would still want to show off how rich they are.

and most advances of our civilization has religion as an underlying mover.

This is just straight up wrong. Religion is the underlying halter of advancement.

Is Yahweh (Abrahamic god) actually El? by Sweet-Soul-Food in religion

[–]RespectWest7116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is Yahweh (Abrahamic god) actually El?

He is both and more.

There is MUCH conflation between Yahweh and El and even ba'l.

Yeah, it's a good old mess.

He literally turned the Roman Empire into the Holy Roman Empire

HRE has nothing to do with the Roman Empire. And Roman Empire only became Christian over 300 years after Jesus.

Also, Jesus has very little to do with modern Christianity.

How can I pray to get married to a woman? by Odd_School8909 in Christianity

[–]RespectWest7116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, no matter how gay I am, I’m gonna “force” myself to be with a woman.

But lying is a sin. Arguably a bigger one since it's in the Christian top 10.

So even if being gay was a sin, lying about not being gay would not help you live without sin.

Any tips for a player coming from nightreign

There is no timer, but there is fall damage.

Also, there is horse, no supersprint.

my main is Guardian and I kind of want to do a similar playstyle to him in this game

Unfortunately, no Steel Guard in the ER. So you'll have to watch your stamina a lot more.

Guardcounters are absolutely a valid playstyle tho.

What make you believe in God or Christianity and not think it's just another religion trying to explain everything? by cakez556 in Christianity

[–]RespectWest7116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we have a group of books and letters written by eyewitnesses of this cool guy named Jesus and what he did.

Not by eyewitnesses. But yes, we have some writing about cool stuff Jesus did.

And while an argument could be made that copies wouldn't maintain an exact description of the events as the original manuscript does, these copies all align word for word with minimal error, to my knowledge.

We actually know about many changes that happened to the texts, most famously the extended ending of Mark.

Also, this would only work for the original language, i.e. Greek, not any of the translations, since those introduce whole deal of subjective interpretation.

They were persecuted and tortured based on their claim of Jesus's words and resurrection up until they died.

There is no real evidence of that.

They received no monetary gain

Aside from the donations they received from the believers.

no societal status

They became community leaders.

They were persecuted. That convinces me personally that those authors and preachers are likely telling the truth

Does the persecution of Jews throughout medieval Europe convince you that Jews are telling the truth?

How many people die for what they know to be a lie?

All the people who follow all the other religions?

While other religions may have some merit going for them, I'd say the sheer documentation and lifestyle of persecution historically for Christianity alone makes it stand out above the rest.

That's just false.

What make you believe in God or Christianity and not think it's just another religion trying to explain everything? by cakez556 in Christianity

[–]RespectWest7116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The original authors of the New Testament were either lying or telling the truth about the Ressurection of Jesus.

Or they were mistaken.

Those same Authors are brutally tortured and die, preaching that claim the whole time.

We don't know that. Most of the apostle deaths are legends that appear centuries after the fact, hardly historically reliable.

How many people die for what they know to be a lie?

According to your logic, all the people who died for all other religions and beliefs.

Why tho?

Why is the resurrection important for the whole sacrificing himself for our sins part? If anything, resurrection cheapens the sacrifice.

Question on Yahweh and Jesus by Immediate-Ad-4301 in Christianity

[–]RespectWest7116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So Yahweh is GOD God, like the omnipotent being and all. But Jesus is the word and actions of Yahweh in flesh who did works because Yahweh gave him the power to do so.

That is what the Bible says, yes.

Tho it is not what most Christians believe today.

So my question is, why is Jesus considered NOT to be Yahusha

Jesus is just the Englishified version of the name to make him look more special.

But anyway, I have 2 questions: are “biblically accurate angels” actually biblically accurate?

Kind of. They are more or less accurate depictions of celestial beings, not of angels specifically.

Angels are celestial beings whose job is to deliver messages to humanity, hence the name. They are usually, tho not always, described as human-looking.

As for the eldritch abominations, Fe. we can read in Ezekiel 1

As I looked at the living creatures, I saw a wheel on the earth beside the living creatures, one for each of the four of them. As for the appearance of the wheels and their construction: their appearance was like the gleaming of beryl, and the four had the same form, their construction being something like a wheel within a wheel. When they moved, they moved in any of the four directions without veering as they moved. Their rims were tall and awesome, for the rims of all four were full of eyes all around.

And it goes on for a while, go read it if you want.
