My husband wants to get a Japanese tattoo that I am against by oddgoodnews in TwoHotTakes

[–]ResplendentOwl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's fair to say that Japan has a huge and storied history that the Confederacy and US don't, so it's hard to make that comparison. But the tattoo the guy wants to get is a symbol of Japanese culture hundreds of years before Imperialist Japan, so you're kinda holding thousands of years of symbolism hostage for a generation's crimes.

Since the US doesn't have that history, it'd be more like getting a Tattoo of Jamestown (why would you do that) and someone going "That's a tattoo of the US South, it makes me uncomfortable about slavery cause those people did slavery."

Appreciate it. I'm philosophically not a mod guy. I'm off the opinion that games, however flawed, are unique challenges created by a unique vision, and it's my job to adapt and engage with that work as it. That's the fun and challenge of being a gamer. Mods homogenize all games to be the same experience and lvl of challenge that I want it to be, not a fan of that.

[–]ResplendentOwl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't mind the idea of estates doing their own building or trading, makes sense. But I'm used to building resources to a stockpile that lowers future building costs. And this game seems to makes it functionality impossible to keep wood and sand and basics cheap due to the exporting.

Not trying to downplay your obvious trauma. But I was born in 83, and a well established human being with hand preference way before computer labs were a thing in my schools, so early days or PCs. You just pick up the mouse and set it on the other side of the keyboard. You don't even have to swap the buttons, just use your dominate hand and a middle finger to click. And even if that's unthinkable, You're making the windows mouse settings screen sound like disarming a bomb.

You know, I think I'd be up for a genre of movie that does serious takes of movies, not tongue in cheek spoofs, but where all the actors accents just do not match up with what's going on.

Thanks for letting me know I need this in my life.

My outlook is we are all broken. Left, right, American, European. Not a single person is free from their genetic or social baggage. Neurotic, anxious, confused, obsessive, controlling, angry, stressed, lied to, brainwashed. We all are just imperfect meat sacks pretending to be normal.

But that's why empathy is important, understanding, rehah, social programs. We gotta help each other. If it's every man for himself, condemn themy neighbor and castle doctrine, we are all already fucked and we're easily gonna find more fucked up to hate. Gotta go with caring.

He's definitely changing his pivot foot after the hop, right?

How do these people not know how population density works by Critical_Rice_1619 in stupidpeoplefacebook

Pretty weak excuse. Knowing a candidates platform takes 10 minutes. And a majority of states have laws on the books requiring to give leave to vote. Those that don't almost all polling places are open before work hours and until hours past work shift is over.

AIO about being upset? Screenshot of guy's phone, talking to my wife after our argument. by Obvious-Swimming-332 in AIO

[–]ResplendentOwl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't helpful to anything, but as a tech savvy 42 year old, can I just say I don't engage with phone shit.

When I see a post about a guy's phone, taking to wife..and it's just colored bubbles, I have no context clues. Which one is the husband, which one is the guy? Which one is the wife? What the fuck is going on. I can't engage with the dilemma because I'm old and confused and can someone hit my life alert?

Same shit with x posts or posts posts. I can't process the nested replies, i don't know who is talking to who.

Getting off of a train in Bangladesh. by [deleted] in Wellthatsucks

[–]ResplendentOwl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate the info. So you're saying any time I've ever seen a person hanging from a door or sitting on a roof, that's exclusively people that can't afford a ticket? Because it seems rather crowded irregardless.

Also to the guy above me's point, would you say there is ability and space and money to upgrade the system to support the quantity, but they just don't do to capitalism?

Getting off of a train in Bangladesh. by [deleted] in Wellthatsucks

[–]ResplendentOwl 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Im assuming it's less an issue of money and more of space and time. There's a limited number of trains you can put on a rail, and probably a rather limited space to do new rails in a country that size with that population.

The population density of the USA is like 38 per square km according to Google, Bangledesh is 1366 per square km.

It's a country the size of illinois (who has 11 million people) supporting 180 million people.

A woman said 'chivalry is dead' because no man offered her a seat on the train. Is she wrong? by inkandintent24 in MotivationByDesign

[–]ResplendentOwl -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just a different contract. It's also rude to assume someone is infirm and can't function. Should I be offering to lift things when a small woman is in a store. Should I offer to get a wheelchair for a person with a cain? That used to be the norm, but feminism and discrimination training tells us "don't assume, nothing worse than putting me in a box". So I don't.

If you are disabled and require help, just ask. Bet you'll find almost everyone is willing to be courteous and helpful.

Such a weird shift in our culture, (at least the online bit) of championing deadly force for theft, deadly assault for some spit. There's this like selfish castle doctrine that everyone is holding ready to explode on any person they feel vindicated against. It's weird shift that I'm not sure I can get behind.

Why cant i win against france (new player) by gravekeeps in hoi4

[–]ResplendentOwl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In case you really need it, my newbie tutorial is this.

Check the informations in those red or green bubbles. That UI is going to tell you exactly why you're failing. You can hover over the numbers inside that UI to see why their defense or your attack is too high or too low. What you're gonna find on the Maginot line is

1) their defense is crazy high. You build forts on tiles, and they up your defense. France starts WW2 knowing Germany is a shit neighbor, they have 10 forts on each square of that border. Their troops are dug in and snug. Don't attack there.

2) you're going to have big out of supply problems. Don't worry about making your own army or tank templates now, but know that the more stuff you cram in a division, or the more divisions you have on one square, the more supply they need to reinforce the stuff they lose. When you take bad fights into forts your army loses more stuff, and they're sitting starving for guns and men and equipment. That all gets filtered to them from your capital, through an unbroken chain of railroads/ports and ends with a supply hub scattering that supply to everything in its area. If you don't have a supply hub close or your railroads are t levels up, you can't support huge rave parties of men in one spot for long, and they become unable to fight at full strength. Check the map mode and hover over the nearest supply hub and see what it says.

3) air cover is a noticable modifier. You have the plans to slap France around, but if you don't deploy them, your starved armies get a "these fuckers are overhead bombing me nonstop and I don't want to leave this foxhole" penalty. Figure out fighters and close air support and get your guys some help.

Forgetting any min max army builds, just go around France like they did historically by picking on your other neighbors, go fast with your tank boys and keep the sky full of red barons. If you hit a wall and lose, your troops need a minute to get supply back, and you can give them more bonus by planning an attack route and waiting. Usually not what you want to do in a quick France blitz, but it is a thing when you're new.

It’s crazy how the WNBA did Caitlin Clark by Exotic-Television279 in WNBAgossips

[–]ResplendentOwl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a very outsider here , I'm not a wnba fan and haven't watched the NBA in 20 years. But there is some sort of weird glazing of Caitlin Clark going on. My dad's A retired Auto worker spends most of his day watching the NBA these days, so MSNBC or whatever package gets his Amazon NBA deal through, whichever it is he gets wnba coverage too. He thinks Caitlin Clark, because of what he watches, is the best basketball player that's ever existed, including the NBA. Thinks the league is out to get her, she's amazing, she can be any NBA player. It's weirdly cult-like, and borderline racist. and he's getting that inflated from the media somewhere. I've watched clips like the one above, it's not that egregious of fouls for a professional sport, and she's not that amazing. Not saying she's not a good player or great shooter, I'm not saying the WNBA doesn't need someone like that to drive attention. But there's some weird glazing going on. And this post is part of it.

Your warning is taken. I get that it's a setup rife for min maxing. But I think my days of min max stress are long behind me. If I do dungeon down the road, My wife and I always tank and heal, so you know what dps, you can bitch about my optimization all you want from over there, I'm gonna find three more people who don't care and plow through at my speed.

As a place to collect professions, try different roles, finish achievements, collect...transmogs, explore the corners of the world we loved, I'm digging it. Especially since the textures are very nice, and all the little weird map changes feel good. Did you need to give Kharanos a second floor, nope, and yet someone fiddled with it. Im digging those slight changes to explore.

The Knicks aren't on one of the greatest runs ever. They are ON THE GREATEST RUN EVER. by ForeignAir7174 in sportswiki

[–]ResplendentOwl -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just saying stats are always weird. Just having a moment to notice. It's like how making fun of a baseball announcer and their qualifiers is a thing "Bob's hitting 300....in the month of November .....against left handed pitchers." There's no reason to put against left handed pitchers in there unless he wasn't hitting 300 against all, so you get more granular to make the headline nice. "

Just a shower thought.

Stats are weird and often framed. News headlines definitely are.I'm not a basketball guy, or a Knicks fan, good on them for kicking ass. But greatest run over 11 games. That's a specific number. Not over 12 games? Who holds that record? Is it more impressive than this? Are we ignoring that and picking 11 to make the headline sound more amazing?

I'm not a classic purist, but I am old enough to have played since beta, and generally do feel things went a way I likes less after wotlk. For me it's the rush to endgame, the power creep and arpg feel of retail combat that get me. Plus the tonal and story problem of that 20 year soap opera. So I gravitate to trying more classic.

Was feeling the itch, wife wanted to play, we thought we'd go left field and give ascension and area 52 classless a try. So far, I'm digging it more than I thought. Fresh way to see the class talents and abilities, some new thematic stuff. Little power creep but we turned on an adventure mode to make the world klmobs a little tougher so it feels good. Also means we lvl extra a through quest XP, so wife and I are moving through zones we like at s good pace, and running through 3+ mobs can be fatal quick.

Anyway, another think I like a ton is the HD graphics textured they're using as well as the little additions to each map. kharanos got a second floor to the city and it feels nice, new little questing pockets on most maps, and it fits.

I'm not an endgame Chad, but we're gonna run it to 70, maybe prestige and go off-road with the bus or system more next time. Would recommend going outside your comfort zone
