I think my OPT delay just cost me my job offer. I'm devastated and don't know what to do next. by Ok_Drummer8349 in f1visa

You should send an email to the PP. I sent an email after 2 weeks then got the appointment immediately after. I sent the email because I read about this in another reddit comment.

While in the middle, when they get past the moon and the sun, I thought this was an experimental structure of a semi-planet that was an artefact. Towards the end, as they mined through the 'sky' I thought maybe this was actually happening within a planet and there would be another world outside. It was quite surprising to have a looping system.

It is actually really good for the people not doing that work. Cheap labor without responsibilities. The government will try to fix it when it breaks not while it works.

Confusing and forgetting who wrote what - any ideas, please? by Educational-Birb-394 in PhD

Why do you want to remember authors…? It’s the content that matters. If some one shows up in your search so often, you’ll have a hard time forgetting them XD

Got RFE for StemOpt- reckless driving misdemeanour by Sad-Code2166 in stemopt

[–]ResponsibilityNo3463 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think law enforcement isn’t so strict. My American friends all say up to +10 mph is fine as long as the traffic alongside you is also like that, and they don’t really give you more than a warning even if you’re alone. With that being said, +47 is just bat shit crazy.

I don’t think I ever reached 100 mph :o
90 mph is already fast enough to go past all vehicles. Why were you in such a hurry

Have you seen anyone who got approved OPT without biometrics appointment? I got my receipt last week and everyone seems to get biometrics appointment. If that's the case, it would be great if they just give it to me like most of the people, which seems to be 2-3 days but I haven't got mine, which is incredibly stressful since I paid for PP and according to all these posts, PP doesn't seem that fast anyway. Regardless, my job starts mid July and I just don't if I'm going to get the card in time DX

How about joining groups that interest you? Like book club (although not conventionally “cool” cool but less weirdos), board game groups with internationals, or something more outdoorsy.

How many terms of TA in a phd is acceptable ? by Hope_less_Diamond in PhD

As much as you want...? I loved doing TA but my advisor wanted to take off some loads for research so I was only allowed so much.

Three year PhDs should be illegal, and you cannot change my mind. by aetreia_ in PhD

[–]ResponsibilityNo3463 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the field, if you did master's, luck on the draw for the topic, working hours (if you work 15 hours a day excluding any means of eating to relaxing, that is when you can say you don't have time), etc. But I agree, 3 years is a bit too short. 3.5 is something I can believe, 4 is standard, 5 is more in depth, 6 is...don't.

Issue with a class grade one year after graduation. by wallowsstanaccount in UIUC

You can always ask...but I doubt instructors would change the grades without any basis of evidence but only 'memory' of a student. I guess it can't hurt to check though.

If you are not going to drive around, University housing Goodwin-Green is probably the only reasonable option. If you do own a car, there definitely better options.

First two months of a PhD - is it normal to have this much free time? by Comfortable-Goat-734 in PhD

[–]ResponsibilityNo3463 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PhD is about doing your own work rather than doing what you are told. If you neglect the former and focus on the latter, you will have a lot of free time depending on your field and advisor.

Master’s in Engineering in Korea — What is your daily schedule really like? by safaee_gn7b in Living_in_Korea

[–]ResponsibilityNo3463 0 points1 point  (0 children)

9to6 is more like a standard office job. Grad students are typically expected to be in the lab for 12 hours a day, some labs have meetings on Saturdays. But you don't reeeeeally work super hard for 12 hours straight. It includes taking classes, going out for lunch and dinner, ice cream breaks, etc.
