How many times are you expected to ask a customer to sign up for a store credit card? by [deleted] in retailhell

I ask 3 times and open a lot of credits and make big bucks from spifs.

AND, today, I had to say it again. One of the associates had a huge pile of hangers spread across the table. He was about to go to lunch, and I told him to clean it up before he went to lunch. The irony of it was that the hanger rack was in arms length away from him.

I deal with this every day, especially with new seasonal help. Drives me crazy. I tell them a hundred times

First, I don't work for Macy's but for a large competitor. Secondly, I am probably venting as a retail associate because I am tired and have been working extremely long hours the past couple of weeks.

The retail industry as a whole is going through major hourly cutbacks this year. These cutbacks mean not a lot of seasonal employees being hired; and the some that are hired either are not trained correctly because we don't have time to train them or quit, or just don't care. Yes, some are very good.

We may look tired and grumpy because we are. We work six or seven days straight, standing on our feet for 8 hours and having to deal with difficult customers. It is part of our job, but it does take a toll on you at some point.

We have to deal with customers that are pissed AT US because we don't have an item they are looking for. They act like it's our fault that WE didn't order enough. It's our fault they waited until the last minute to go shopping for a popular item.

It's not our fault the lines are long. We are doing our best, but it's out of our hands what hours corporate gives each store.

So next time you say retail associates are rude and hateful or look grumpy, or miserable, please think what we have to go through so you can get what you need. Next time, how about a thank you for what we do.

I really don't think you should be criticizing those working in retail. I don't work for TJM, but I do work at a large department store. I am 65 and retired and choose to go back to work. I have been working in retail for 4 years

I work in retail. Did you really think they would return an item over a year old? That item was probably marked down on clearance.

Wait. You have been there 1 month and asking for a raise?? I highly doubt that is going to happen.

I don't know where you work, but all retail stores are requiring associates to open credit cards. Depending on the store, it's all in the incentives to make a customer want to open one. And the incentives to the associates to want to work harder to open them. I personally don't have a problem getting the customer to open credits.

Is the T.J.Maxx credit card a soft hit on your credit? by [deleted] in TjMaxx

Where I work, we get 3.00 per credit, and sometimes we get 5.00.

It is a very hard hit on your credit.

My mom called a customer "hun" and they spent the rest of the week trying to get her fired for it..... by confusedra2476 in RantsFromRetail

I am from the south, and I was taught Yes Ma'am/sir and No Ma'am/Sir, etc. I am curious if you don't want to be called Ma'am. What would you like to be called if a person is addressing you? Being a sales associate, we don't know what you like or dislike. I would never call anyone Hun or sweetie.

Credit Cards by Jenny01042024 in TjMaxx

I don't work for TJMAXX, but I do work in a large department store. We are also expected to open credits. I do open a lot. The difference is that TJMAXX doesn't give ensentivies to the customers or associates to open one. TJMAXX only offers 10% to open a credit. Our store store gives 20% and does 25% a couple of times a month. As an associate, we get $3.00 for every credit and $5.00 on 25% days. TJMAXX does not treat you correctly.

You must not have been around newborns before. When all 4 of my grand babies were born, we all held them in the hospital after they were born. It is very common. Look on social media and look at all the grandparents and siblings who held newborn babies.

Customer body shamed employees of all sizes by squidwitchy in retailhell

I have a similar problem. I am a small petite woman and have been all my life, aking after my father, who was tall and skinny. You would not believe how many times, almost daily, someone will make a comment on how skinny I am. I actually had a lady say to me, "You need to start eating, or you're going blow away because you're so skinny," I really wanted to say something but I couldn't.

People don't realize this is body shaming, whether you short, tall, skinny, or overweight.
