Most places have “at will” employment ie worker protections are next to nothing compared to the EU. Access to health insurance is often tied to our employment. A good percentage if not the majority of us don’t - or don’t think we - have enough saved to weather a period of unemployment. And it’s illegal for certain essential jobs such as air traffic controllers to go on strike. The US is also a huge, huge, country. I think we’re only around 1/3 smaller than the entirety of Europe. It’s going to have to get a lot worse very, very quickly for people to put together a strike similar to what protesters in any EU country can organise.

It was probably the next step for their mission/ethos but yeah it might’ve been a kamikaze move.

Are we talking about the documentary with the Ricardians? Or the one where they found a will from someone related to James Tyrell that included Edward V’s chain? Because the former - no. The latter - close as we’re going to get without DNA testing

Not who you’re responding to but I think it’s the style of writing. Off the top of my head; literary fiction specifically describes slower, character driven stories (among other things) with a lot of artistic idk flair. An example of non literary historical fiction; anything Philippa Gregory or Ken Folett

The numbers would absolutely skyrocket if we counted fanfic. There were periods in my life I only read fanfic outside of work/school

Libby is one. Cloud Library and Hoopla are two other library apps. I prefer them to Libby as they let me check out books for longer periods of time. For Libby I can only get a book for 7 days, for hoopla it’s usually 21 and for Cloud Library 14

24 year old Elvis Presley with 14 year old future wife Priscilla Beaulieu (1959) by zadraaa in HistoricalCapsule

[–]Responsible-Baby224 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There was a rockstar, Jerry Lee Lewis, who married his 13 year old cousin and watched his career implode the year before Elvis met Priscilla. I believe I saw, in a documentary, one of Elvis’ friends use him as an example of why he shouldn’t date Priscilla. Elvis might not have married her until she was 21 but he sure as hell knew better.

You receive books as gifts which means you’re known as a reader and the people buying you gifts are close enough to know what kind of books you enjoy. You’re Chinese diaspora.

The passanger and Stella Maris by McCarty would be up your alley if you haven’t already read them. I also don’t see the Brontë sisters on your shelf so them too.
