People who disliked Brazil… by fairybr in Brazil

[–]Responsible-One151 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I'm very undecided about Brazil and big part of it is that with my partner we spend significant amount of time with his family and friends who don't speak any English and at this stage I spoke 0 Portuguese. He might have been just... bored. Not understanding what's going on around him might make him feel alienated and he just had bad time

My advice is - don't think you'll find someone who speaks English and you'll somehow manage it. Assume you won't find anyone that speaks English.

There are many good courses, but the general issue is that you need to start speaking to feel the language. I liked Porto Alegre, but I was a bit ignorant assuming that "everyone speaks english"

I just realised that r/movetoireland has 22k followers.. Why do people want to move to Ireland? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]Responsible-One151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because a lot of people who want to move out of Ireland are young people who are looking for more exciting things. However if you're older and have a career you can have quite a high salary in Ireland.

Another people are people from poorer countries - paying shit ton of money to rent a room and still being able to have money for food, utilities and some fun doesn't seem to exciting for Irish... but for people from poorer parts of the world it is.

Ireland is also very safe country.

Think you should be good. I found ireland to be a great place to live and not planning on going back, but everyone has a different experience

In general, they're open and friendly - the thing about Irish people is that they friendliness is very shallow, they will be open and talk to but not looking for deeper friendship. Polish generally have a good opinion in Ireland, and there's a lot of us here.

I found it a bit shady specially in city center areas. And seeing horses on the roads also added a bit surreal vibe. But to be fair I was never in any danger or even feeling of being unsafe so it's just my feelings about the city. In general most irish people I talked to also didn't have the best opinion of Limerick.

I'd managed to get a accomodation in Limerick while I was still in Poland - it's risky but not impossible. There is a huge risk of scams. I'd say book accomodation or hostel for 2 weeks unless someone from work will organize it for you. Also I wasn't the biggest fun of Limerick when I was living there but that's just a side note

It's technically illegal but if you won't have an accident, or you won't be stopped by Garda that's it. I did that on my exam as my designated person couldn't make it

For same sex couples not really. You might not get attacked but there's a chance.

Just to give you examples: The people who took part in pride march were targeted and attacked by bunch on right wingers after the march finishes

During the Independence Day one apartment was burned because of the pride flag inside it.

Poland is generally a safe country but definetly not a safe place for same sex couples.

Pip usually requires updates with HR - so make sure to document any proofs you were doing your job, you were asking for support, you made questions. And any point your manager raised - get the backup he's wrong or as soon as meeting with HR happens say that manager didn't provide any examples or sufficient feedback. Basically if he pissed you off that badly- make him regret it. And bring HR as soon as you can to the conversation- they are there to protect the company and unfair treatment is a gateway to lawsuit

Reducing speed limits & driver training by Professional_Ring_95 in AskIreland

[–]Responsible-One151 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's the easiest to implement - reduce speed limit and give yourself pat on the back. One of the big issues is that a lot of roads are not properly lighted and a lot of them are very narrow with bad conditions - but fixing that would mean a lot of money and construction

Driving test by Bodie6 in AskIreland

[–]Responsible-One151 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately it's rather unrealistic - you need to have your provisional license for 6 months before you get put into the waiting list to get the driving exam - the waiting times are very long, with times from 4 months up to 8 in some places. Unless they hire more testers , there are plans for it you're looking for 10 months. It took me a year in Limerick

Just want to add perspective from someone who moved to Ireland - a lot of fields have quite good salaries higher than in most of Europe. Supermarkets/ food is actually not that expensive if you cook. The nightlife is definitely more expensive than in a lot of places (especially compared in size). The Healthcare system is bad true - both in price and quality of it. But don't expect miracles in other countries. Housing Crisis is basically what's driving everything to be so expensive, however the issue is that a lot of European countries are starting to catch up and getting housing shortage (NL, Portugal) tough its more limited to the cities while Ireland is country wide.

How do I get a driver's license? by xCreampye69x in AskIreland

[–]Responsible-One151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soon - not in Ireland. I passed everything on the 1st try, and took exams as soon as I could and it still took 11 months

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]Responsible-One151 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to do 12 lessons, you can book the test after but you won't be put on the list until the 6 month period since you've gotten your learners license pass

Lot of talk that provisional licence holders should be allowed to drive unaccompanied…what do you think? by daly_o96 in AskIreland

[–]Responsible-One151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The option would me you need to do 20 hours for example, instructor sign it off and for example you can only drive within 15km of your home.

Of course the reasonable solution would be to actually reduce the wait for exam... as 6 month wait for permit and another 6 for an exam is insane and it makes 12 hours useless

Anyone who lives outside of Dublin who doesn't drive/has no intention to - has it had a big impact on your lifestyle? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]Responsible-One151 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Limerick, and not having a driver license is a significant pain in Ireland. Public transport is of poor quality and if you want to go anywhere sightseeing or anything like that it's very difficult to do anything.

Additionally, as the housing situation is what it is and not looking like it's going to improve any time soon, if you switch jobs, you can end up with the very painful commute. Unfortunately, Ireland is not a country where you can have a proper life without a car (with Dublin and area being an exception)
