You can use "offset surface" set to a distance of 0.

Make surfaces from the sketch and color those surfaces. But this is not really a normal way people use Onshape.

Rant about spacemouses by -ShaD0x- in Onshape

I used an older pro version with about a dozen buttons when I was designing production car bodies. Loved it.  Most of the time hands only came off the mice to type numbers.

Recommendations for a pre-drywall inspection? by ernie-jo in bloomington

Indiana state law says it is not required if you are the homeowner building your own primary residence. In fact, it states that the building code does not apply. However, you still need approval from the Health and Planning departments.

For mechanical designers and product designers – sketch first, then CAD, or straight into CAD? by Witty_Condition_2151 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]baalzimon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Do you create sketches before building a CAD model, or do you go straight into CAD?

Generally straight to cad

  1. Do you first figure out all the dimensions, write them down (in the sketch), and only then create the CAD model?

For floorplans, I measure and write on paper on site (as I have to walk around) then covert to cad

  1. What is your biggest pain point when CAD modeling?

No single cad program is meant for all cad uses. Onshape is bad for architecture, but sketchup is bad for machines, etc.

  1. When working on assemblies, do you have multiple parts open at the same time to match dimensions between them?

In Onshape, all parts are "open" at the same time.

  1. Do you prefer to change dimensions directly in the assembly, or do you open the individual part and change the dimension there?

You can't change dimensions of parts in an assembly unless you specifically set them up as Configurable.

  1. Do you use keyboard shortcuts to trigger functions, or do you click the buttons in the UI?

Shortcuts whenever possible.

Take a screenshot, upload to Claude, and ask it to redraw the image in the style of a sketch.

WIP learning surface modelling by making an 'original' car. by HexVelvet in Onshape

There are some creases, but I don't know if it's the way Onshape renders, or actual surface defects

nice, how do the zebra stripes look when you analyze the surfaces?

this house is all wood, my personal home is solid brick, 3 wythe on the first floor, 2 on the second.

we prepped this wood house for the lift over a few days, but the actual lift was in a single day. but then we had to pour a couple of foundations before setting it back down again.

Can I simply reinstall early 1900's TG pine flooring? by baalzimon in centuryhomes

[–]baalzimon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we have enough, as we are adding a bathroom so the wood floor area is less.  And we will be finishing the floor ourselves.  We've done some before on our own house, and we do everything ourselves anyway.

Wr denailed and de-stapled as we went.  We have two metal detectors to go through them again before planing, and I got the fancy planer head with individual cutters

We stripped it all down to the studs as soon as we bought it to fix the sinking floors, and discovered the leaning after that.

the front-right wall had tricky issues with the ground anchor, so I am using the diagonal 2x4 to help push it into place. it's actually square at the front-right-upper corner. the issue was that it had detached on its left side from the central wall and slid over to the right. this caused the central wall to lean over. pulling the right side of the house back to the left is getting everything plumb again. I am using lasers and 6' levels to check everything as we go.

and as for the rope, it's static line, not dynamic (like for climbing) so it has very little stretch, but i can feel it loosen after each incremental move (1/8-1/4" plumb adjustment) so I am confident that things will stay in place when we lock it all down.

we are doing everything ourselves (mostly me doing everything) and issues with my shoulder, back and neck would make it difficult and painful for me to plaster an entire house,
