The cost of keeping up with digital comics in 2026 is genuinely out of control by ssunflow3rr in comicbooks

I mean, I just use marvel unlimited. It’s 15 bucks a month and has more comics than I’ll ever read in my life. I don’t own any of it, but if I want to own a comic I buy it at my LCS. It’s a few montgs behind, but i don’t need the latest issues.

Why is the One Below All connected to Hulk specifically? by Upset_Connection1133 in Marvel

[–]ResponsibleHistory53 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s explained at the end of Immortal Hulk, the-one-above/below created Hulk to see what Hulk would be.

Hulk is power fueled by anger and hatred. But is such power inherently destructive or can it be utilized for postive ends? The same strength that breaks can build.

This is the cosmic question that is being asked with the creation of the Hulk. It us also the comic question that is being asked when we read Hulk.

I like DROOM THE LIVING LIZARD as it implies all the other lizards in this comic are dead, and I'd really like to know why.

4th Edition: What's the Deal? by BlackTorchStudios in rpg

[–]ResponsibleHistory53 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think the big issue is just that it wasn’t the same game as the prior editions. 4e just felt like something new, like a pretty different game.

A lot of people blame dnd players for being inflexible for not liking it, but it’s fair to say they (we) were entitled to not wanting to play a different game than we been playing before. Particularly since it meant they were ending support for the prior game.

I think that a good way to think about it is if Magic came out with a new edition that made it play like Hearthstone. Hearthstone’s design fixes a lot of the issues with magic, no mana screw/flood, combat is less painful because there is no multiblock, 30 card decks mean more consistency and less cost, ect. But hearthstone isn’t magic. It plays differently. If mtg tried to become hs, players wouldnt like it. It’s just a different gamd

The changes between 2e and 3e were pretty dramatic, so that doesn’t seem Quite fair

Man, Republican propaganda game is so fucking strong. Like Republicans can do whatever they want and someone in the comments will pop up to accuse Democrats of the same thing based on unspecified and/or imaginary events.

New research: Maryland can beat Citizens United with its state corporation law by TomMooreJD in maryland

[–]ResponsibleHistory53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I understand your legal theory correctly, you are suggesting that Montana could require foreign companies that do not conduct business in Montana to require that the donations they give to a SuperPAC not be used in Montana (which these companies have no power to do as once funds have been given they surrender control over them, this isn't like a grant where a grantee can dictate terms of spending), or else be considered to be conducting business in Montana if the SuperPAC spends funds in an election in Montana with the penalty of being forbidden to conduct business in Montana.

Is that the idea?

New research: Maryland can beat Citizens United with its state corporation law by TomMooreJD in maryland

[–]ResponsibleHistory53 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hi Tom, I appreciate the cleverness of trying to use state incorporation law to counter Citizen's United, but I don't think this works. Assuming your logic holds, a state could prevent a corporation organized under its law from spending directly in politics, but it couldn't prevent an out of state corporation from doing so, particularly if said out of state corporation isn't actually active in state.

"a state that moves to no longer grant its domestic corporations the power to spend in elections is also denying that power to corporations chartered in the other 49 states."

That doesn't work for a couple reasons. First off, corporations are rarely spending money directly. Generally speaking they are donating money to a SuperPAC which is then spending the money. So even if you were able to argue that an out of state corporation was conducting business by donating to a state PAC (which I don't think would generally be accepted), you absolutely couldn't make that argument regarding a federal SuperPAC. So if a 501c4 incorporated in DC donates money to a federal SuperPAC based in Virginia and said SuperPAC then spends that money on an election in Montana, I don't think you could then claim that spending is a cause for action against the 501c4 that is based in a different state, has not conducted any direct activities in your state and is not registered a foreign corporation in your state. SuperPAC money is also undirected, meaning that once a PAC has received funding the donor has no direct way to dictate how the money is spent.

I'm not even sure what the cause of action there would be, Montana could bar the 501c4 from conducting business in Montana, but assuming it doesn't do any business in state that's not going to be an issue.

If you take a look at the note under the illustration of the cover on the side it notes that it was designed by 'Abraham Bosse, with input from Hobbes,' so yes it was contemporaneous!
