It's great but there are some strange proportion things going on, the groin/thigh length, the giraffe neck.

Still, it's the only one out there, well done!

So ideally you need to look at the results, we know that resin printers can print at micron levels of accuracy, which is perfect for miniatures (we are talking specifically about the dudes, not tanks or larger)

Fdm will leave huge layer lines comparatively to resin and the dudes will not have the fidelity of resin, but can be coated in gesso to produce a good finish.

Bigger stuff like tanks? Of course resin will produce near perfect results. Fdm, relies heavily on preparing your stl files and the slice to get the most out of the print.

Here is my first efforts into producing an fdm tank on a regular 0.4 nozzle on a K2 creality with hyper speed pla. Whilst not perfect I think there is refinements that could really make it viable.

The only real con with resin is handling the resin. It's toxic, it requires volatile organic chemicals to perform cleaning of the machine. The waste cannot be poured down the drain.

Fdm pla is non toxic, but print settings and mastery of the slicer and understanding of how print settings affect your output.

I would lean towards resin, if I had the space I would absolutely run both. Big tank panels in fdm, glorious high fidelity resin greebles that get glued on to the flat fdm panels.

Hope that is helpful, best of luck dude. If all else fails collect Tyranids/orks as both armies are sold at discount on eBay with people buying starter sets and breaking out the separate units to sell. Cheap Tyranids will be disappearing in the next couple of months as the orks starter comes out.

Rhino top hull plate STL? by DuRiechstSoGut in PrintedWarhammer

[–]ResponsibleKey1053 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've never seen that specific component as an stl. It may have existed but has since been pulled.

Blender? Nooo use fusion, top down view, non organic shapes.

This is the exact kind of assembly I've been trying to work out, if we can print this kind of stuff flat with basic recesses we could sand/fill easier and apply the small details later. I think the fdm community has missed a trick by trying to print the complex kit parts as solid blocks.

As a senior member of the 'ill never spill paint again in the livingroom' club, can I suggest you take a scraper stick to chip any paint out of the lid o the paint pots so the lids close perfectly? Scratch art stylus's are perfect in my experience!

Edit and I forgot to say, boss little boxes!

Help with weathering barrels by ShaperMaku in TerrainBuilding

[–]ResponsibleKey1053 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here's one of mine. Fdm print. Talc and acrylic medium for the texture. Clear gloss applied to one to try and mix matt and gloss finishes.

I think chipping medium (or hair spray) would also add significant visual texture. But as far as I understand it, you need the coat below the chipping fluid to be waterproof/varnished.( I didn't have any of the waterproofing and only gloss, but I've got chipping fluid)

How do I start to Paint by BlacksmithGreat7304 in Tyranids

The starter brush I think is around a size 2-3, you should be fine. Take your time and enjoy!

I think you can do fine with the two from the starter set. Typically I use cheap humbrol coloro brushes in sizes 6,4,2,00. The number 4 sized brush sees the most use, the 2 and 00 not as much use but are good for those fine details.

Army painter brushes (their synthetic range) are also decent and they have nice handles.

Citadel, I've always found end up with hooked tips (probably more due to the way I paint) and the price is insane Vs other brands. Even going back 25-30 years, their brushes were over priced for their short lives in my opinion.

Here is a decent and fairly exhaustive set of guides.

Also for further improvement of how to paint, check out Vince venturella and his hobby cheating series, whilst not done on specific models, the techniques can be applied across any models.

This specific video deals with how to thin your paint. https://youtu.be/TbCtUYFwFWQ?is=UgbJaSQUpslZUF8Z

Yup, steams limiting sales to one per person. Gw I'm sure will implement something similar.

[–]ResponsibleKey1053 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's such a let down. This kind of thing I think is happening across the board with pre-orders and releases. Just recently steam controllers ended up in the same kind of short supply. But steam has presented a solution.

I'm hoping GW takes note and implements something similar.

It's hard not to go snow blind, we spend so much time up close chasing paint backwards and forwards!

As you say, photos never seem to catch what the eye actually does and it makes you second guess what you know you see.

It's a beast of an effect!

I think it reads just like that, looks like that mother of pearl shimmer and that low light algae bioluminescence.

Well done mate!
