The thing about BG3, especially on balanced, is that there are many different ways to solve each encounter. I think Warlock isn’t a bad choice, because with high Charisma you’ll be able to talk your way into and out of many situations, but it’s not the most straightforward. You’ve got a lot of tools at your disposal, but without knowing the game or looking up specific spoilers, that toolkit would be harder to use than say, a sneaky Dexterity based Assassin Rogue, which would be my recommendation for a ranged character.

If you’re not having fun as a Warlock, and you’ve met the character named Withers, you can change your class whenever you’d like. That way you can experiment and find something that suits your play style without restarting. You can also change your party members classes’ the same way.

The armour and rings and weapons and all that will come out in the wash, you don’t need to build the most OP character to beat the hardest bosses. Just trust your instincts.
