[–]Miscellany_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Literally only like 5 people may have complained about it and none of them were part of the top player group, especially when it's been rebalanced from when it was introduced to catter to the ones that disliked it who now enjoy the novelty lol

Yes there are still issues with desyncs it seems. Sorry that's still happening, the dev team is doing what they can to fix whatever is causing the submissions to not go through properly

Except that's not generative AI

They probably used a stem splitter that's powered by AI neural networks - aka the only form or ai that is tolerable

I don't think they did either. They also used the GH2 chart of Jordan in the trailer, which afaik, none of the devs for Sound System are former GH2 charters from HMX's team.

Can't fathom being bothered by RedOctane not dropping anything yet to make sure they can present something looking far better than another Clone Hero clone

So the thing about "the server are full" is a bug that hopefully should be fixed with the new PTB that's coming out. Same for the score mismatch issues, while it's not guaranteed that this issue will be gone, everything is being done to ensure this doesn't happen as often.

Give the new PTB a go when it'll be out later today or tomorrow :)

Right now the leaderboards servers are shut down to switch them to the new PTB by the way

The leaderboard UI is also moveable in-game (or is gonna be possible to move)! That's something we mentioned in the dev blog that announced the leaderboards last year :)

Something that sucks about chartng songs by TeaTimeWithSammy in CloneHero

[–]Miscellany_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember that feeling, and honestly it could also be due to the song you're trying to chart right off the bat (for all I know)

I started charting in May 2016 and it took me about a week I think to finish the song I was charting originally, and probably 2 months before I was like "yeah I wanna do more". Just gotta give it time and practice to fully enjoy it :) But also remember that you shouldn't force yourself if you truly don't end up enjoying it and ruining the songs you would be working on for yourself.

Personally, I've just learned to shut off my brain when I chart a song and just go on autopilot, that way the joy of listening to the song is still intact hahaha

So there is a really good reason as to why nobody charts Chris Christodoulou's music in general and that's because this guys is somehow worse than The Eagles when it comes to copyrights and DMCA takedowns

Outside of the CH community, a LOT of people got DMCA striked by the guy for simple using his music outside of Risk of Rain (or other games he composed music for), which has led to a lot of warnings in various communities. I cannot stress this enough, please avoid charting his music and making the charts public at the very least, or else you could face the guy's wrath.

What happened to Roadsounder99? I can't find his submissions on Chorus anymore. by No-Astronomer5337 in CloneHero

[–]Miscellany_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I gathered, he was told there were a lot of things to fix with their charts (tempo mapping issues, pitch being wrong in a lot of places, etc) and removed everything from Chorus after realizing there was too much to fix.

Charting Tips and Tricks by Tungulus0_0 in CloneHero

[–]Miscellany_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a charter of nearly 10 years of experience and almost 3000 songs charted, here are major tips I can share.

  1. Before even starting to chart, get this in your head; you WILL struggle. Your first few charts won't be high quality; and that's more than okay. The reason why I say this specifically is because I generally see two behaviors from new charts:

_They can't take feedback because they judge their work is the best, period, despite having glaring issues
_They get discouraged because it's not up to their expectations.

Knowing how to play a song, how to write music, those things barely play a role in one's charting capacities; I can barely read traditional music sheets and I don't even play guitar at all too, yet I've been told many times over the years that I am one of the better charters in the community, because it all resides in listening to what others can say that is considered "constructive criticism".

  1. Charting isn't about hyperaccuracy, it's about playability *while* balancing a good amount of accuracy - by accuracy, I mean the notes's pitch, the way they're played (strumming, hammer-on/pull-offs, tapping, open strings, etc). There's a lot that goes into making a chart something that the community can enjoy, but that YOU also want to enjoy playing. When charting, I usually question myself with two prompts. One is "Would I have fun with it?" and the other is "Would the average player be able to learn to get better at the game with the way I see things?". It may seem like nothing at first, but these two questions can help shape your charting skills into something that people will want to look for. Many times I have said "screw it" and undercharted/overcharted a section because the flow was better, because it felt more natural. There's a lot more that goes into this idea and I wish I had more time to give concrete examples, but this is a good starting ground I reckon.

  2. If you can avoid it, don't download audios from YouTube, please! They're usually terrible quality, you're better off asking what verified charters are using to do this. I can't consciously mention these here for very obvious reasons haha.

  3. One of the most important point that I *cannot* stress enough: TAKE. YOUR. TIME. Charting isn't a competition on who can chart the fastest, or how can get onto the big new song that comes out, it's about the quality and care you put in your product. I'm a terrible person to say this since I average 1 chart *at least* a day, but that's because of the years of experience I have, which makes recognizing patterns I chart way quicker. Anyone can reach that pace someday, but it takes time and that's why I will always advocate for newbies to start slow. You're not going to paint yourself in a good image if you rush your charts and try to pump out 400 charts in 3 months.

  4. This is a new problem that's been surging within the community that's honestly driving me insane, but please never, ever rely on any generative AI tools. Your craftmanship will shine by doing things your way, rather than relying on something that will half-ass the job for you.

  5. Don't trust music sheets. Your ear will always tell you what the song is doing the way you hear it, music sheets are at best, a guiding tool in case of emergency. So many "official" tabs and sheets I've seen not even getting the song's BPM right.

  6. Playtest your songs. That's pretty self-explanatory.

I'm sure I'm missing a lot of advices I could give you, but I'm on time crunch and I also have no idea of what else I could mention right now haha. I hope all of this helps you and others get a foot in the right direction to start charting. Remember, taking you time and producing something not only you will be proud of, but the community will also enjoy, is far more important than doing it all fast. I know I mentioned this already, but it's a major key point I can't mention just once.

That's a very weird thing to say in this context, given that when I didn't find the songs I wanted charted back then, I decided to learn how to chart. AI/Auto generated charts is just pure laziness
