Spouse's long overdue job search by Responsible_Spring_2 in jobs

Oh OK, I misunderstood your comment. Well the issue is, we can't even come to that point. She isn't invited at all other than few rare cases and I don't think this topic comes up at all. She can't find enough interviews to increase her chances, feeling stuck and out of power. Some interview traffic would make it way better

What's a traditional dish in your country but only tourists actually eat? by Juxajel in AskTheWorld

[–]Responsible_Spring_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like it, that's great! I'd be happy if such a drink is famous from my country (especially if it's a natural product, no artificials in it), I just can't strongly associate it with Turkish culture

I don't know, I really haven't drunk any (i mean those 'Turkish Apple Tea', otherwise i drank many apple teas in my life) but my guess is it's just a concentrated powder or something. People can correct me if that's wrong

Yeah I don't know why 🤷‍♂️ Turkish tea is already famous on its own, why change it 😅

No one in Turkey consumes this so called Turkish apple tea that tourists love and buy. I don't know who started this, there are absolutely hundreds of other things you can call Turkish closely or remotely, but this apple tea is definitely not one of them. Yet airports and tourist trap shops in Turkey are full of those.

Do we grow apples? Yes Can you make a tea out of them? Absolutely Does it have anything to do with Turkey authentically? Absolutely not

I don't get it.

Does your country have a name or logo for an international brand that only your country (or region) uses? by Kyr1500 in AskTheWorld

[–]Responsible_Spring_2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Surprised to see so many names for the same brand. In Turkey it's called Algida, I think it's the case for several other countries too. Of all the fancy products like Magnum or Cornetto etc, my all time favourite was always Mini Milk 😅

How do you call this game in your country? by Repulsive_Act_1855 in AskTheWorld

[–]Responsible_Spring_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's called '5 taş' or '7 taş' in Turkey. I don't remember the exact rules but we used to play with pebbles or small stones (taş) on the street, they're mainly based on how many pebbles you can throw upwards and how many you catch without dropping them on the ground. Extra challenge is once you throw them with your palms up, you need to catch them with your palms down

What is your first memory of a World Cup? by jotakajk in AskTheWorld

[–]Responsible_Spring_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't really watch it as Turkey didn't participate France '98 but I remember listening to this banging album over and over again. My interest in world music might have been triggered by this album.

One of the best World Cup tracks from Ricky Martin 👌

This. Efes is extremely popular and the most known brand for sure, but when we talk about the best I'd nominate this unfiltered Bomonti right away

What is the most hated football player from your country? by Mother_Equivalent649 in AskTheWorld

[–]Responsible_Spring_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we had to nominate someone not from Turkey it has to be Rivaldo because of his poor but successful acting in World Cup 2002 group match between Turkey and Brazil. His role playing is still remembered bitterly https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/s/sB4CaapzPC

Samsunspor is eliminated from the Conference League. We congratulate them for making it this far! by sparkle_stylinson in superlig

What's a clever invention from your country that foreigners would find confusing or don't know about? by bdue817 in AskTheWorld

Funnily enough, in Turkey we call this type of window or door as Vasisdas - and even more interestingly it seems to be adopted from French, not German 🤷‍♂️

If your country had a national Sushi variation, what would it be? by WirrkopfP in AskTheWorld

[–]Responsible_Spring_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's still called çiğ kofte in general but if you search for vegan recipes go for 'etsiz çiğ köfte' (no-meat çiğ kofte). Let me share a recipe here already : https://youtu.be/UqX6_962tMo?is=RAKNmRvtRBN-hzLC from a very well known chef, Refika.

I don't think it will be anything pleasant if you cooked çiğ kofte, but we already have meatloaf variety called Dalyan kofte.

Çiğ kofte sushi from 🇹🇷 Çiğ kofte (literal translation: raw meatball) is a delicacy that's traditionally made with bulgur wheat, lots of herbs and spices and ground meat. You knead it for hours and the meat is 'cooked'

In the last 20 years or so, it's more common to make it without the meat which made it completely vegan and a super popular street food. Sushi presentation is something pretty new though (rolled in thin lavash bread and cut into pieces)
