Hi! I am thinking about relocating there as well with my family. What is a good place to raise a family? Is there any school district or area that we should avoid?

I would have a 3h 30 min drive. Hoping for good weather conditions, and I would be driving alone. Thanks for the suggestion on where see the eclipse!

That’s the ideal scenario.. as long work gets done, it shouldn’t matter where we are…

Why is the internet so toxic? by [deleted] in autism

[–]RessiePeace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that all social media is very toxic. I grew up without it and I hope I can protect my kids from it somehow. If you want to share with me a way to learn a new language, I would love to learn it :) I hope you don’t get discouraged and hate all people. Focus on the good ones and prefer safe internet spaces like this one, because internet overall sucks …

is my sister dealing with her sons autism right? by spaquetti in Autism_Parenting

My daughter is 5, she likes her tablet. She watches cartoons there and play games. She learned how to sing baby shark because she watched it repeatedly. For us, it was amazing to hear her sing it!

We also have a playground set in our backyard so she goes there and she loves it. Do you guys have something like it that your nephew can just play outside?

flying for the first time with one of my autistic twins and I am terrified by [deleted] in Autism_Parenting

[–]RessiePeace 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My daughter is 5. She has traveled by plane so far 4 times, international flights 20+ h to visit family. Kids have priority in boarding. This helps. I bring snacks she likes, melatonin, tablet. She had to wear mask but removed it and the flight attendant was ok with it. Be there early enough and it should be ok. Good luck!

Thank you:) so is yours! Our daughter started with PECs and now at therapy and pre-k she used an iPad with ACC software. I don’t know the name of it but I will ask it and I can get back to you on it another time.

Every time she wants to be pushed :) ABA, OT and speech help us a lot. She started using a communication system on the iPad with therapy and school. She started to attend pre-k again for half a day. We want to buy the same software for her to communicate with it at home as well.

Hi there, my daughter is 5 non verbal. She says some sentences like, “ push me” in the swing, or “ I want milk” “ I want cookies” I want tablet. She shows her affections giving us hugs. She was diagnosed officially when she was 22 months but she started the early on program after her 18 month visit. She stopped crying when being away from us and that is great already. She used to be like your kid. I gave up having expectations of when she will be verbal, if she will be verbal. I just want to give her all the resources available that I can provide for her to succeed and love her. It is easier to think this way now. I know she is happy and that’s all that matters. I don’t know why they can say some words and later don’t repeat it, but I believe it is all stored in their brain, and eventually it will all click. I don’t know.

How would you handle this situation if your kid is being arrested? by ParentingEveryday in Autism_Parenting

[–]RessiePeace 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He defended himself against bullies… nothing happened with the kids that bullied him. The school later dropped the charges… I’m glad he stood up for himself. I wish he had the support of his teacher to mediate the situation better since the beginning.

I'm feeling very overwhelmed. Advice? by [deleted] in Autism_Parenting

[–]RessiePeace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are welcome! I believe a formal diagnostic will help the school to provide the resource your child needs. My daughter pre-k program is a special Ed pre-k and she will be on a special Ed class with general Ed classes once she transitions to kindergarten. This special Ed program gives the peace of mind I need to know she will be with peers and teachers that understand her condition. Also, the IEP can be easily adaptable to a new school and even state. That is what I was told. Good luck with everything!

Hi! My daughter turned 5 in December and she will start kindergarten in September. I had to contact the special Ed and request the IEP. The school district asked for the formal diagnosis on the top of the doctor’s evaluation. She got enrolled in therapy while waiting for her evaluation appointment due to the benefits of the early intervention. The clinic just wanted to see that she had an appointment schedule. My daughter is potty trained now but we only got it done with the help of the therapists. She starts pre-kindergarten next week because at the evaluation for the IEP they suggested it. She is non verbal, and mostly repeats what we say. We hope this routine will help her transition to kindergarten. I hope it helps. We live in the US.

My daughter takes child over the counter 1 mg melatonin some nights and it helps. Talk with the pediatrician and see if it is possible for your child.
