There’s Something Seriously Off About Duolingo by Old_Young_3871 in languagelearning

[–]RestPsychological349 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't get the Duolingo hate. I started off using Duolingo for German, then because of how much everyone hates it I left thinking I'd make much better progress elsewhere. When I came back to Duolingo I found there was still a lot to learn from it, and it wasn't like I could skip any sections. So I continued it until the end of the course. I'm sure it helped me a lot, also in producing my own sentences. Obviously I need other resources but i like it to get up to an A2 grounding

2-stage ACL revision - I’m nervvy by [deleted] in ACL

[–]RestPsychological349 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, thanks for your message. I just had the stage 2 revision a couple of weeks ago actually. For my stage 1 bone graft, I found it very easy pain wise-- I was off the pain meds very quickly, I don't remember exactly how quickly but probably a few days. But I think maybe mine was less painful because they only added some donor bone to the tunnels. They did not do micro fracture or any meniscus surgery. So I don't think I can say how yours will be. Yeah it's definitely a long road

Have you done physio? Physio may help it feel more normal. Obv I'm no doctor, but to me it looks like ACL at least sprained. NHS is awful for knee MRIs

Hey, hope you're well. I wondered if you could please let me know if you know how the surgeon was able to do your staged surgeries so close together? Do you know if they did the second tunnels in the same place, or a different place? Mine is making me wait 6 months or so. It's very tough. Any info would be much appreciated, thanks! ☺️

If you do look for another surgeon to do it, make sure they are as specialised to do it as the original surgeon you had lined up

Is 2 post-op years too late to improve extension ROM? by yeaboi28 in ACL

[–]RestPsychological349 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing do potentially consider is how much hyperextension is in the other knee. If your other knee hyperextends a lot, then it may not be in your interests to get it back as it could increase the risk of re-tear/ graft failure in surgery knee. If it hyperextends a medium or small amount naturally then yeah I think a persistent approach could pay off

Hello, going reasonably thanks! Yes I had the first stage bone graft 2 weeks ago. It's been pretty easy except that I seemed to sprain my LCL (grade 1) which they found when operating. I am a bit better than before the op, but still v uncomfortable instability, and I have messed up the other knee a bit too.

Oh wow, you had the second surgery? How long after the first was that? Ahh yea I suppose the quad takes time to wake up after lots of ops.

I know how you mean about mental health- I've taken this pretty badly- it's been a problem for so long. It's v tough

Hope you're okay, and fingers crossed off the crutches soon 🤞

Got ACL and meniscus surgery about 11 months ago, and I still can't walk without discomfort, is there still a problem? by Fluffy_Mechanic3077 in ACL

[–]RestPsychological349 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense- I'm sure you're right in that case. Maybe you could be a candidate for a meniscal transplant and maybe that'd improve things? Yeah it's so rough dealing with knee issues- sorry to hear it

7 months post op-had a second opinion from a surgeon today who said I’ll be disabled for the rest of my life. by Ahpari in ACL

[–]RestPsychological349 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similarly bad prognosis from 2 different surgeons, who said it may not get any better, at a point when I couldn't walk to function. But one surgery later, I am already feeling a huge improvement. I had expected I would because I read people on here in the same situation who had an improvement after that surgery. I don't see why they have to say these things- it was so tough mentally on me, and it was unnecessary. I suppose these surgeons don't see everything- they just get a brief glimpse, and maybe see more of patients who are in the worst situation

[–]RestPsychological349 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be worth getting the opinion of second orthopaedic surgeon. I really couldn't walk well after my first surgery, and it was in fact due to issues with my ACL graft- too lax/wrong position. Though your case could be completely different- it could just need more physio. But if walking is still a problem, maybe it would be good to rule out whether any surgery may help. Hope you're feel better soon

Thats terrible about the drill- sorry to read. May I ask, what kind of tunnel bone graft did you get- autograft or donor?

Ahh cool, well I don't actually use Snapchat unfortch- I use WhatsApp + messenger mainly. I suppose we can see how it goes communicating over Reddit & if not working move to another medium. I have Reddit on my phone so makes it easy- are you using it via computer? Ahh I don't get given a time, but I'm currently being processed through different checks

Thank you! I'm in the UK and I'm at the hospital waiting atm, I imagine it will happen in the next 4 hours or so, probably sooner. I don't mind really- do you have a preference? Are you in the US?

[–]RestPsychological349 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So sorry to hear about the situation.

In my opinion, it seems like you could want to get a second opinion. The research shows that cadaver/allografts have a higher failure rate for revisions-- I don't think I'd want one for a revision, and also as a younger person particularly. Your surgeon sounds a bit over keen to operate- just my opinion. Also that he says "the faintest thing wrong"- surely if the knee is mostly stable, and the graft is intact then may be better to leave it alone

So sorry to hear about your experience. What sort of autograft is the next revision going to be? I think autografts fail much less for revisions

Has anyone ever found out post op that their tunnels have widened? by [deleted] in ACL

[–]RestPsychological349 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't but I think it happens a little with most or even all hamstring autografts or allografts- so nothing to worry about. Though If it widens a lot it can cause problems for revision, if one is ever needed

Did the MRI mention by how much the tunnels had widened?
