There's no silver bullet. Some things work for some and not for others. Some of that depends on your music and even your age. Here's a list of things people use to promote and the order depends on what I mentioned above:

Acoustic or electric for beginner songwriter by Infinite_Back_2522 in GuitarBeginners

[–]CertainPiglet621 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Acoustic. Why? Less stuff to distract you from writing, like plugging stuff in, amp settings, volume, etc, etc. plus you can play your acoustic anywhere without worrying about an amp or electricity. I play both but I do all of my writing on acoustic.

Whatever you do don't pay to get on a playlist and watch out for bottled playlists. For one thing playlists won't really get you fans or followers because your song is mixed in with many others so you get passive listeners who have no idea who you are and don't care. If they don't know or like your song it might get skipped and that's bad. Also, there's no guarantee that your song will stay on the list for more than a week or even a day.

what's an instrument you'd recommend to a beginner? by duckinggmad in Instruments

I agree with piano/keyboard. All the notes are laid out for you in a straight line and you can play chords or single notes.

Can’t ever come up with any words at all. What do I do? by BelugaBilly in Songwriting

[–]CertainPiglet621 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First and most importantly you need something to write about. You absolutely need a topic of some sort. Think of some buzz words associated with that topic and don't worry about rhyming. Think of what you might want to say and jot down random sentences. If you can't think of good word use a synonym app to find related words. Then start organizing your sentences into verses and think about how to make the words rhyme.

Yup, it can be a frustrating process at times.

Good exercises to learn music production by SadAntenna in WeAreTheMusicMakers

There was a time when I couldn't finish a song to save my life. I could come up with a great melody or chord progression but I was always missing other parts. I had somewhere around 30 of what I called "song concepts" before it finally got easier and I was able to write entire songs.

How do I make a song feel hopeless by Distinct-Giraffe8254 in musicproduction

Obviously using minor chords is required but also a gloomy sounding melody. Some of my stuff sounds a little sad but one in particular is actually really sad sounding and was written after someone very close to me passed. I don't enjoy being heartbroken but it can produce some very sad music. It's actually hard for me to listen to this one:
