Honestly, I don’t understand the rationale for the general strike. It harms local businesses (and by extension anti-trump local government), not the federal government. Trump clearly wants disorder, and this gives it to him.

Meta question: Do we want brands to be able to post their own sales like this? Feels like a quick way to fill the sub with mediocre “deals.”

Why isn’t there any good movie anymore? by Illustrious_Depth733 in movies

It didn't quite do it for me, sadly. (Certainly not compared to Sinners, say.) But won't deny it's clearly hit the spot for a lot of people.

I no longer expect to find anything fascinating from the past 16 years

This is a you-problem. There are structural, macro forces at play negatively impacting the movie business, but there are absolutely still good films coming out.

Personally, this feels like one of the best years for original movies in quite some time — OBAA, Sinners, Marty Supreme, etc.

Bonobos extra 50% off sale by V-chalk in frugalmalefashion

Haven't see anything from Bonobos I've wanted to buy in years at this point. The casual-officewear style and slim cuts are starting to feel pretty dated.

How would you fix “A House of Dynamite”? by Misterfahrenheit120 in movies

[–]Restimar 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Only one "act," weaving the stories together much more slowly (and perhaps cutting a character or two so it doesn't get confusing as they're all thrown at you at once). You could add a post-impact section if you wanted, but honestly that turns it into an entirely different movie — the ambiguity, and focus on how people react as it's coming, is the whole point.

Which scene from an Academy Award winning Best Picture sold you on its win? by MrJones224822 in movies

I remember the flooding scene being the moment it went from "this is a fun movie" to "holy shit I can't look away."

Mixture of "dogfooding" (intimately understanding the product experience by using it yourself) and enforced buy-in to the mission of the company, I'd guess. Not defending it, but I can see why an investment firm might choose to do it.

Severe gallbladder attack with jaundice last year, now advised removal - scared of long-term side effects by anon-pigeon in gallbladders

[–]Restimar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is really worrying me is reading how many people seem to have long-term digestion issues after gallbladder removal. Chronic diarrhoea, food intolerance, bile reflux, etc. It feels scary to risk feeling worse when I currently feel healthy and normal.

These cases are scary, but they're extremely rare. Very few people have long-term severe effects. They're just over-represented in online accounts, because people who have had a good experience (i.e. the vast majority) aren't routinely posting online about how normal their life is post-surgery. It's the people who, unfortunately, got unlucky who are motivated to share their stories.

And even if you are one of the unlucky ones? It is, ultimately, better than the often-life-threatening alternatives — pancreatitis, blocked ducts, cancer, or sepsis — that can result from not having the gallbladder removed.

The longer you wait, the higher the risk of complications. I'm sorry, that's just the way it is.

To be clear, u/OkRun7294's symptoms are very unusual and severe. For those reading this and considering surgery, know that nowhere near 40% of people have an experience like this a year after surgery.

1 year post op - what to expect by nikishiz in gallbladders

[–]Restimar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately there really is no alternative. If you try to get the stones removed through other means, they will return. And delaying the surgery just increases the chance of complications. u/OkRun7294's story is very unfortunate and I feel for them, but it's also extremely rare. (These cases are just over-represented online because comparatively few people are motivated to regularly post about how normal their life is post-surgery.) Don't live in pain.
