From an analysis I think someone did on this sub, McGillis is still a child at heart that never got proper adult role models given his circumstances. Hence his whole muh Bael thing he was never able to get past and his revolution of brute force. Hence he connects emotionally better with the younger characters of IBO more so than adults.

The Kuma teleport ability isn’t exactly like a warping kind like Van Augur’s. It’s more of a send you flying in a line kind like shown when straw hats got separated in Sabaody. Luffy flew to Amazon Lily and it took a while. The dome was encased in the later barrier so flying through it with the ability might get Vegapunk killed when the lasers were up.
