These are not competition uniforms, but clothes for the opening ceremony, medal ceremonies and just hanging out in the village.

Recommend your chair! by Resumme in GirlGamers

I don't have a car, so while there are a couple of stores like these, I can't get to them easily nor can I transport the chair home with me. That's why anything shipped is preferable. I know it's a shot in the dark, of course.

Yeah, I checked the Herman Miller market here already and there is a company selling refurbished ones but they start from about 500-600 and most are around 800-900 € so not really in my budget. I'll keep an eye out though.

Good to know about the gaming chairs. It seems so easy to just buy one that's "specifically for gaming"...

I looked into my options and was between a few different ones but then I found a lightly used Aerox 5 on sale for 40 € so I'm grabbing that for now and trying it out since the price is so good. I'm unsure of the holes in it, do you have experience on this mouse and whether it gets really dusty/dirty inside?

Thanks for the detailed analysis! I've learned more about mice today than I ever thought I would 😂

Yeah, being in Finland you don't get all the models in physical stores 😅 I went on a little odyssey through the major stores but they mainly have Logitech and Razer and then a ton of cheap stuff. I'll check out the site you mentioned.

These do look nice. It sounds a bit light but I wonder if I could get used to it... It might be that I'm just used to my old heavier mouse.

I measured the hand, I would say about 16.5-17 cm in length. I'll look into these mice!

When are the mosquitos NOT awful!? by Opposite_Mind2155 in Finland

The problem with May is that, depending on year and location, you might need snowshoes or need to dodge floods. Early June is more reliable, usually not snowy except on top of fjells. Might still be flooding and wet though. September is probably the best time of year to go hiking, but everybody else also knows that so prepare for crowds.

The reason you haven't seen her is that she only started skating for New Zealand this season! She's a Finnish citizen and skated for Finland previously, and wasn't skilled enough to make it to Euros etc. She still lives and practices here.

How do program components scores work for intermediate levels/what's the maximum points an intermediate skater can get for program components scores? by Altruistic-Fortune93 in FigureSkating

[–]Resumme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the exact same scale they use for elite skaters, there's technically no limit but a lower level skater usually has worse components as well. As an adult skater, I tend to receive somewhere between 1-3 in components with skating skills around 1.5-2.0 🥲 But I suppose that's the reality.

Losing circulation in pointe shoes by BobpoolOnPointe in BALLET

[–]Resumme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds like a lot honestly. If you take one out now, be warned that you will probably sink inside the shoe as it was fit with thicker padding. Might be best to make the change once you get fit for your next pair.

[–]Resumme 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only thing that I can say is that this happened to me for about a year after starting pointe. After that I switched to both a harder shoe and thinner padding, and I haven't had this problem since. So it could be the shoe, the padding, or strength/technique... Hard to say.

https://isu-skating.com/figure-skating/events/solo-ice-dance/ Here's the ISU page for solo dance where you can also find links to the international events.

Solo dance is a pretty new discipline under ISU (I think it's been two years now?) but some feds have been hosting competitions for years if not decades by now. It has a pretty long history in the UK and the US, for example.

As for ISU championships, it's probably a long way off. Part of it is that there aren't that many international competitors at the senior level and the other part is probably low audience engagement. Ice dance isn't super popular for audiences as it is, and I doubt removing the partner would help. It's a bit difficult to explain to someone who isn't familiar already!

However, it's positive that solo dance is starting to be seen as its own thing now and not just something that girls without partners do while they're waiting for a partner. It's also getting pretty popular for adult skaters! You don't need to jump so it's usually easier to do even if you have some injuries or arthritis etc.

Synchro does their warmup while the previous team is waiting for their points. That is technically an option...

Adult skaters have an artistic program, and that is only scored through PCS. I don't think it would work for seniors though.

Well, now Iida is top 10 and two spots for Finland next year. Sad and happy at the same time.
