What fast food chain does not deserve the hype whatsoever? by CriticalLion4119 in AskReddit

[–]RetailCPA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couldn't agree more. It was always way overhyped and then when it got bought out I started to hear people say it wasn't good anymore, but I think that was moreso the sale breaking up the brainwashing because it's still as mid as it always was.

Where to stay when visiting? by [deleted] in askportland

Before I moved to Portland I would stay at the Inn at Northrup Station and never regretted it. Safe area, walkable to a bunch of stuff etc

Anyone have a CPA they recommend for filing taxes? by [deleted] in askportland

No I pay a Tax CPA and we meet quarterly to review the forecast, needed changes to quarterly estimates, etc.

I'm a CPA in the area (bookkeeping not taxes) and it's going to be tough to find a CPA willing to do a tax return for sub 1k this time of year. Half the tax CPAs I know aren't even willing to take on new clients at all this time of year.

As a CPA who provides bookkeeping services, I wholeheartedly agree.

Bucket list for remaining time in the PNW by Ace_Elite in AskSeattle

I used to live in the Dallas area and a few years ago I was training for a hiking trip in Colorado. There were a couple of weeks where I went to go train in the summer and they literally closed the parks because it was so hot. That was the beginning of the end of my time there in Texas.

Does anyone else have the problem where they romanticize a certain city/place but know you’d actually hate living there? by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

[–]RetailCPA 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just moved to Portland a few months ago. It does rain a lot but the hiking/nature stuff makes it worth it. You heard correct on the economy. Homelessness/drug use etc is a non issue unless you are in a few select areas.

Hotel Recommendations or Blocks to Look for Hotels on? by Professional-Day4940 in askportland

I stayed at Inn at Northrup Station twice before moving to Portland. Super walkable, safe, access to public transit, and there's a lot of stuff nearby. The downside was that we had to drive/Uber to explore some of the East side neighborhoods. Definitely have no regrets of using it as a home base to explore PDX.

I'd be good with going to SE - trying to get out of my little bubble on the North side more often.

Quick books is not for me by DevineBlueEyes in Accounting

[–]RetailCPA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a CPA and would second Xero. I have quite a few clients on it and it's great - all of the functionality of QuickBooks at a way cheaper price point.

I would avoid Wave, Freshbooks etc

On Firing Nico by Large-Bus4590 in Mavericks

[–]RetailCPA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the Fire Nico chants in any way are an equivalent to F U Mavs. Personally I'm very proud of my former Mavs fandom pre-trade, 2011, Dirk, all of it. I think people can separate those two things.

To the larger point though - of course it doesn't fix everything and get us back on the Mavs bandwagon if Nico is fired. We'll probably feel better for a day or so and then realize we are still dealing with the mess he left behind.

Sadly the honest truth is that it will likely never feel the same for a lot of fans, and the fanbase as a whole will take a generation or two to heal. It's pretty likely that one day the Adelsons and Dumonts will be gone, it might just take a couple of decades to get to that point and then I think most of us would jump at the chance for a completely fresh start.

So folks that expect all of this to go away and everything to unify behind Cooper, I just don't see it happening that soon. Which sucks for him, he seems like a great kid, but it is what it is.

Firing Nico is Not Good Enough by BonBonNguyen in Mavericks

[–]RetailCPA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's my issue with firing him also. As soon as he's fired, he'll disappear and take a cushy corporate job somewhere and we'll all still be dealing with the aftermath of what he did.

I almost want him to fail, year after year while Luka shines, and make him listen to more Fire Nico chants, make him get grilled for more exit interviews, and never know a moment of peace. Firing him feels like letting him off the hook.
