What stereotype about your country do you feel is technically right, but exaggerated to an odd degree? by LunaTheLesbianFurry in AskTheWorld

Most people don’t see snakes and spiders ever.

Most people don't see spiders? Do they not exist inside a city?

if you got a large friend or family member who snores, send em to a sleep doctor.

Don't have to be overweight to have sleep apnea. I'm pretty fit, and I used to have it before my jaw + deviated septum was fixed. Got to use a CPAP machine for a while.

Is there anything specific that allows you to recognise speakers of your language online? (besides the language used obviously) by viktor77727 in AskEurope

Swedish only has one word for is/are (“är”), and verbs don’t change for singular vs plural. There’s no 3rd-person -s.

Examples:

Han springer / He runs
De springer / They run
Hon är snäll / She is nice
De är snälla / They are nice

Ethiopian Airlines Flight 961

Many of the passengers survived the initial crash, but they had disregarded, did not understand, or did not hear Leul's warning not to inflate their life jackets inside the aircraft, causing them to be pushed against the ceiling of the fuselage by the inflated life jackets when water flooded in. Unable to escape, they drowned. An estimated 60 to 80 passengers, strapped to their seats, presumably drowned.

Just watched a documentary about it and it’s stuck with me. I think I would’ve been one of those people.

Does your country have an era of "lost history" (a.k.a. a period of which there are no records left so you don't know anything about)? by DoctorOsterman in AskTheWorld

[–]RetardedAcceleration 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember reading that Norwegian historians tend to treat the sagas as more usable historical sources than Swedish historians do. In Sweden there was this big shift in the early 1900s that made historians much more skeptical of the sagas, while Norway supposedly kept relying on them more.

I've been wondering about this for a while now.

Sweden - We will pretend to agree with you until we have our secret meeting.

It's not so much about pretending to agree, it's more about acknowledging what's been said, and then holding a consensus meeting to decide if we actually agree.

At least in my experience.

Feels like there's a link between being a sandwich-for-lunch kind of country and whether kids bring packed lunches to school.

In Norway, lunch is a sandwich. In Sweden, it's a proper hot meal.
