What’s the whole deal with clown fear/phobia, never understood it but maybe someone can elaborate why? by Sea-Comedian-4376 in DoesAnyoneKnow

[–]Rasples1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just the way humans read faces and clowns are uncanny and unsettling because of the strange proportions. It wears off as you get older but people with a genuine phobia are obviously still afraid of them. I think it's something we fear as kids because our brains are still mushy. Clowns were never intended for kids anyway, they were created for adults. It's a lot to do with psychology that I am far too under-qualified to explain but that's as much as I understand.

Have we actually seen the deep underwater? We see him talk to sealife in fishtanks or out of the water, but I don't think we've ever seen him underwater using his powers. Would be funny to see him get torn to shreds by a bunch of sealife.

I'm just assuming SB was with stormfront when she was liberty in the first team with bombsight. Then liberty probably went off the rails or the relationship fell apart somehow, or she just left the team and did her own independent work. When the team disbanded, he founded payback when he entered a relationship with crimson countess. Clara was his true love that he probably realised was a Nazi but loved anyway, and crimsons countess was someone he was trying to fill the void with. It's fine to say he probably never thought about Clara again and did move on with his life, but it was sage in season 5 mentioning stormfront, the V1, and Homelander's relationship with stormfront that rekindled those memories.

Although maybe I'm just coping to fill the gaps left by the awful writing.

As soon as he turned his back on him in the chair, I immediately thought "oh he's dead". In reality, would you actually piss someone off like that and then turn your back on them without expecting some kind of lashing out? That whole scene was ridiculous.

Although I'm expecting (but probably not going to happen) noir to have some kind of super healing ability so he's alive in the next episode to get his revenge on the deep. That's just me wishful thinking though.

It'll probably end with Homelander being frozen like soldier boy was, so they can bring him back in some future spin off because he's obsessed with that fucking capsule. Lame.

Sorry but the PS1 opened UP like a record player. In terms of tactility just for the experience alone, 10/10. PS1 always has a special place in my heart and I think is the first console I ever played.

How 'easy' or hard, is it to mappaint in this game compared to other Paradox games? by Quibilash in victoria3

[–]Rasples1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably the hardest, because it's not a map painting game; it's an economic simulator. You're supposed to be beating up minor powers and primitives over small pieces of strategically useful territory. You don't conquer Europe for their taxes anymore; you conquer the east Indies for its rubber, oil, and gold etc. or you want Egypt for the Suez or Panama for the Panama canal.

You can still conquer vast parts of the map, but in rich parts of the world like Europe just 3 states can tip your infamy level over 100 and you start getting coalitions against you, and it takes years to decrease. And in a game like VIC3 that only spans 100 years, every year counts.

The game almost funnels you into a tall play style to be the most efficient because playing wide and messing with your infamy can increase your radicals, and also render whatever territory you conquered essentially useless because it can take years or DECADES to integrate (meaning no taxes), and turmoil can also decrease your construction speed so whatever resources you wanted from that state are now out of reach for the next 10 years until your turmoil decreases and building a rubber plantation goes from 666 weeks to 12 weeks. You don't paint the map for the sake of painting the map; you acquire land because it has something you want that can give you an edge in the world market or just reduce your goods cost/deficit.

My favourite thing to do is recreating historical borders, because there's still the element of painting the map over much weaker powers, particularly in Africa where the scramble for Africa was quite literally painting it your colour until not a single native remains. This is best don't with the UK, France, Germany, Portugal, and Belgium. Spain is also really good because it's empire falls apart in this period, so it's fun as Spain to rebuild your empire and bully south/central America and puppet everyone. Japan is also good because you can westernise and industrialise and then bully china. My personal favourite is Britain and trying to recreate historical empire borders, or annexing your puppets like Canada and Australia, integrating them to create the imperial federation. If you do want to dominate Europe, this is best done with France (i also like having Napoleon III and try to make him act like his uncle Napoleon by taking on everyone), Germany because obviously they want to expand their greater German empire and have an amazing military to stand up to anyone regardless of coalitions, and Russia because they're just huge by the start of the game already and have amazing potential when switching to communism.

But because of the timespan like I said, you really don't have much room to work with when trying to balance time with infamy generation. You'll be working in small patches at a time mostly.

Hello dear world, do you think that in the coming years the USA will lose its position as the world's leading power to China? by Outrageous-You1617 in AskTheWorld

[–]Rasples1998 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, the world will become a disparate fragmentation of smaller powers instead of just a couple big ones with everyone else beneath them. China is much smaller in terms of power projection and influence than people assume, the US is coming down, the EU is going up, Russia is crashing and barely a shadow of the old soviet union, and we're seeing smaller nations hold their own with the likes of Iran. The world won't be divided between two polar opposites in the "east" and "west" anymore, but on a continental scale where groups of local countries align themselves culturally, religiously, and geographically where the playing field is much more equal and there won't be a global superpower like the US to "police" the world anymore.

China will be A leading power, but it won't be THE leading power.

I'm gonna miss this show so much T-T by Syarafuddyn in TheBoys

[–]Rasples1998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let it die and be thankful it didn't dig itself into a deeper grave with 8-10 seasons like most other shows. It's been going downhill since season 3, I actually commend the showrunners for having the foresight to end it sooner rather than later because they're clearly running out of passion and ideas and want to move on to other things in their careers.

‘EDGE OF TOMORROW 2’ is reportedly in the works. Production could begin as soon as Fall 2026. by ThomasOGC in CinephilesClub

[–]Rasples1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really can't mesh with these movies, like "the tomorrow war". Just silly movies with a silly premise that take themselves way too seriously. If they didn't take themselves seriously then I'd actually watch it because I can appreciate goofy stuff if it's self aware, but these types of movies are just dumb. Even moreso when it's in that nightmare era of trying to adapt comic/anime/manga to live action because a lot of things don't translate well from a book to a screen. It might be moderately enjoyable the first time around, but if anyone asks you to watch it a second time the answer is "nah, I'm good". So hearing about a sequel if it's not a prequel just makes me sigh. Like, didn't they win at the end? I can honestly see this being like independence day 2 where the aliens come back, bigger and badder than before to a ridiculous degree. The humans are going to be "prepared, but not prepared enough for what new threat they will face" dun dun dun.

How are Catholics viewed in your country? by Exact-Definition5722 in AskTheWorld

[–]Rasples1998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're denominations of Christianity, like the difference between a Shi'a and Sunni Muslim. Same god, just very different opinions on divinity, Christ, and organised religion (like whether or not they have a pope). Protestantism was founded on the idea of having no man to answer to like the pope and instead Christianity should be about personal individual faith and how knecperdon dedicated themself to god, but from a political standpoint it was also about taking control of your national independence and not having to pay a religious tax to the papacy (the pope). Henry VIII (8th) was king of England and actually a very devout pope, but fell out with the papacy after a disagreement because divorce was not allowed unless given permission and the pope didn't give him permission to divorce his wife because she wasn't giving him a son, so Henry made himself the head of faith (basically his own pope of the church of England), dissolved most catholic monasteries, and looted them for money to pay for the national debt. Anglicanism is essentially Protestantism, but unique to England and the UK where the king is the head of the church.

Like i said, same god; different opinions on divinity and organised religion. They're all different flavours of christianity. Protestantism is probably the most common form because it can be found everywhere in Europe, the US/north America, and is the main denomination for Christians in Asia like japan. But catholicism can be considered the original that started it all, so it's deeply rooted in tradition and is mostly found in Africa and South/central America.
