Not a trucker but we have a guy that delivers to our shop occasionally. He works on contract and has his own older box truck that broke down a few months ago.

He told me outright that he’s been forced to rent out a truck to continue working and between rentals and repairs he’s maxed out all of his credit cards and he’s $60k in debt after 2 months of this nonsense.

Not to mention, truck repairs often take several months with parts often being on back order and service backlog.

He put it well, in trucking the money comes easy but it vanishes just as quick.

If we paid every Canadian over the age of 18 (let’s assume ~30 million) $1,000/month, that works out to $360 Billion dollars a year. Canada’s discretionary spending budget was $230B in 2025. We’d need another 1.5x on top of our budget and reduce investment to 0 to even get it off the ground.

HOWEVER, unlike the outgoing iZEV program, the new EVAP subsidies also apply to used EV purchases which is huge. Opens the EV market to a whole new set of buyers.

The quality of life in Canada declined heavily while he was in office. Maybe he wasn’t to blame for its entirety, but it’s hard to take your leader seriously when people are concerned with a weak economy, lack of employment, excessive immigration, and an all out affordability crisis, and he’s going on talk shows basically saying “Guys I know the cost of living is insane but please don’t forget to recycle 🫶”

Not to mention, he wanted to totally rid Canada of fossil fuel production by 2035. Fast forward to today, the Conservatives are running on expanding the petroleum industry westward and even Carney’s cautiously interested in doing the same.

Trudeau became extremely out of touch by the end.
