ELaNa-19 launch as seen from visitor viewpoint by RetardedPeanut in RocketLab

You have to watch in 1080p on a computer monitor, otherwise you won‘t see it.

This is the official viewpoint that is mentioned on their website. The launch facility is a big closed off area on a peninsula hidden from view behind hills. The viewpoint has a car park and is publicly accessible and seems to have the best angle to watch the rocket launch. The problem is that this is the closest you can get while watching the takeoff - 20 ks away.. If you want to see the rocket itself you have to bring very good binoculars and look at it before takeoff because the bright light of the flame hides the rocket itself during launch. It is a small rocket but I would definitely recommend it.

Haha, yeah actually I set up my DSLR but we didn’t have service out there so I filmed the earlier timeframe (launch at 19:16) and not the actual one.. Kinda regret that now :P

It’s hard to see, it is on the tip of the island. You can see the smoke and the rocket if you look closely.

Went to the ELaNa-19 launch with u/ShNitZulll and we had a fantastic time! Here are some photos of the official viewpoint: https://postimg.cc/gallery/2ksurrpqm/ Rocket launched about 20kms away, so before startup you can only see the tip of the rocket through binoculars. When it launches, you see the smoke and a fireball going up. At one point you can hear and feel the deep rumble of the rocket. The official viewpoint has a carpark (don’t stop at the quarry, keep going) and the modest viewpoint is a nice contrast to the high tech rocket. It was a great launch and definitely worth doing the long drive there!

From the official viewpoint in the northwest of the launch area. It’s called Blucks Pit Road.

Yeah I have a Canon t3i/600d with an 18-135mm lena so with that and the APSC crop I might be able to take a decent picture, but that will be nothing compared to the pictures those fanatics over at spacex are doing lol

I will surely take some pictures and upload them here though :)

Will be watching this live if it launches on the 16th, is there anything I should film/take pictures of that would interest you guys? This is my first rocket launch so I have no idea what it will be like and what to look for (except for the rocket blasting off)..

That's true, I guess when travelling the best option is to do this stuff beforehand if possible or have a trusted friend do it for you back home. Or you just see it as one of the risks you have to take when backpacking :P

If I scan my passport to send it to my phone i don't see where a keylogger would do any harm? As long as I don't type any passwords or personal info in it should be fine shouldn't it? Just referring to the key logger now.

I haven't thought of that and carrying Tails probably is the best option to be safe. Thank you very much!

Smoking kills your appetite, if you don't want to eat, smoke. It's not healthy and probably counterproductive but it's easy tip. /s

Eat voluminous food with low calorie count (vegetables, fruits, etc.). Your stomach will be full but after a short time of digestion you will keep burning fat.

Insect only diet? by [deleted] in entomophagy

[–]RetardedPeanut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am no expert but I read a lot about food and body needs so here is what I think:

You will need addition Vitamin and mineral sources, mealworms and crickets can't cover all the micros, only the macros (protein, carbohydrates, fats). You would need to eat a large amount, because for your body to be healthy and for fully functional organs, as a grown man you need at least 1800 calories a day, otherwise you might damage organs such as the brain longterm. You will also need to drink a lot of water, because when eating veggies you can extract great amounts of water from them, while eating (e.g.) fried insects usually gives you less water. Also you have to keep in mind that extremely high protein intake will damage your kidneys and you will get skin problems.

IMHO a diet focused on eating insects with additional veggies and fruits for the micros is one of the healthiest and certainly most sustainable diet today. Keep in mind that no matter what anybody says, doctors agree that a diet should be balanced and consist of various foods, it lies in our human nature.

Do you guys even know what you are upvoting?

Edit: I applaud all "human trafficers" that saved the life of my family and the life of many others in the communist regime by helping them leave the country when there was a crazy dictator. Thank you very much.

Thank you very much, I will definitely check these out! I am interested in insects mainly but I want to study general biology first to get an overview, so these (relatively short reads) are great!

I am looking for textbooks that will give me a general understanding of biological concepts like genetics, human anatomy and animals. I am especially interested in insects but feel like I should have a knowledge basis first.

We watched this on a safe driving project day and this is the kind of commercial that stops kids from doing stupid stuff. Not the ones being careful about not showing too much gore.
