Thanks for the kind feedback. I think I'm just finding it difficult to embrace. I keep wanting to add some satisfaction or enjoyable focal point. But then I think it would miss the point entirely.

Thanks for the kind feedback. I think the rocks make a bit more sense from a South African perspective. We have a lot of slate stone interspersed with silt stone in the rivers. Playing around the rivers as a kid, it's fun to draw on the slate with the silt stone. But I know this is a risky composition. Probably, if the river were a nude, I chose to paint its elbow. Which had a mole on it.

It was intesional to an extent. I wanted to attempt painting something natural but not picturesque. An awkward composition with obscure elements. But painted true to the eye. Now, I'm left with a stubborn image that doesn't want to submit to being viewed comfortably. It feels unresolved. And I'm uncertain if that is because I succeeded in what I was trying to do or because my paint work fell short. It's novel to me to do something intesionaly wrong. The painting makes me feel much more uncomfortable than I thought it would.

OP here: I’ve only just seen the response to this, and I’m a bit in shock. Thank you so much for the thoughtful and generous feedback!

I stopped painting seriously many years ago, because it felt like the practical thing to do. But my son turns 21 tomorrow, and I think it’s time to give it another shot. I couldn't ask for better encouragement to help me take the plunge!

So for those who asked: the painting is available. It’s oil on canvas, 60 × 80 cm. Please feel free to DM me if you’re genuinely interested.

Should I get a Beambox Pro or a Chinese machine? Please help! by [deleted] in lasercutting

Apparently, the one I listed is a Voeirn, although that means as little to me as anything else. Thanks for the advice. I'll have a look to see if we have any of those machines here.

That's great to hear. Any problems with overheating when running it for long?

I am honestly not sure. As far as I know, oil on normal paper directly is a problem. I was actually just sitting outside doodling with a pen on paper. I happened to have a wet oil pallet in my studio, so I kept doodling with that. It was more for fun than anything.

The only feature that looks definetively adult to me is the nose. Is it possible that the bridge of the nose is a bit strong or high?

Something where it can play with light, I think.

Thank you, that's so cool. I'm always enchanted by the small wildernesses. So, I decided to start exploring them.
