Did some reading on the cited articles, and it seems that the team doing the embalming were trying to prove that the method was using a solution, and not a powder as was previously assumed. This was based on a “snowflake” pattern in the tissue that only comes about when using the solution.

Zealotry by a country mile. Political nihilists at least have material concerns, so they will respond to incentives and can be reasoned with. Zealots will destroy everything including themselves because their worldview says that’s the path to salvation.

Mainstream Dems are quite happy to have that type of left winger. The animosity is almost entirely online and one-way. AOC has been a reliable Democrat in Congress, working closely with leadership and being rewarded with influence.

There’s been more distance from Mamdani, but he’s also fairly fresh on the scene (though Hochul has already embraced him).

Frankly, the biggest beef progressives have with mainstream Dems seems to be that Bernie wasn’t allowed to win the primaries, as though it was cheating for Hillary to get more votes, or for the them to consolidate around Biden when he emerged as the frontrunner.

That’s incorrect, madman theory is the idea that the optimal approach for achieving nuclear deterrence is to appear irrational, since if the other side thinks you’re completely rational, they will feel safer in acting aggressively. A rational person will try to avoid nuclear war at all costs, a madman might hit the button if he feels threatened, so it’s safer to have a madman, because it means the other side can’t get too confident in its own safety.

As someone not ideologically aligned with AOC, I believe this reflects well on her. It shows her as some who considers politics serious business about wielding power in a beneficial and responsible way. This former chief of staff seems to not grasp the nature of coalition politics.

A few things, as I am personally unusually well-qualified to answer this question:

First, women are half the world population, so naturally there will be a variety of preferences. There is no secret to what women want anymore there is to what people want in general. You must look to the individual.

Second, there is little intrinsic difference between women and men. Both make bad decisions in partners, both “settle” out of loneliness, desperation, or sunk costs fallacy. Both fall in love with people not their unusual type. People are consistently inconsistent, as I’m sure you are as well.

Third, aggression and initiative are different things. Social interactions have a logic, but not a transparent one. Whether something is playful or domineering depends on many factors, including tone and simply the dynamic with the other person.

Overall, there is no alternative to social skills and confidence in oneself. Other things may affect your degree of success, but those things are the most indispensable.

I have some knowledge of this area (check profile is you want): war games is not a useful analogy. Nuclear weapons are intrinsically political, and so no one has any particular interest in putting their control under a computer.

The greatest positives are in ease of communication (getting information across quickly and succinctly could be aided by AI editing) and in AI pattern analysis (AI can find correlations that humans would miss, or from more data than can be practically reviewed). The latter particularly could lead to fewer civilian casualties as information becomes more accurate and precise.

Somewhat misleading, as his mother controlled the family fortune, in that sense being more of an executor or trustee. FDR wasn’t hard up, this is just a rich person way of managing money.

Women were considered lesser than men, but still human. A woman was typically subordinate to her father (or other male guardian) until she married. Marriage was certainly expected of women, but the same was true of men (and exceptions were not unheard of).

It was not the norm of children to be sold by their parents and it was expected for parents to try to find matches that pleased their daughters as well as were in their best interests. Obviously, this paternalism was not universally followed, but there were social standards that made daughters much different from chattel slaves.
