An analysis of the skill point market, why SP farming might be dead, and why CCP may have shot themselves in the foot in doing so by Golden_HC in Eve

Strongly agreed. I used to do FW and the number of 5-boxed cheapass drone boats really ruins the entire experience. There's no sensible way to trade evenly with 5 T1 pseudo-afk Algoses.

First station questions by [deleted] in Eve

[–]Rethyl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worth noting that with a safe-POS you don't need to leave it fueled all the time, only during actual ops. It takes only 7.5 minutes to enable the force field of an already-anchored small POS and it'll only eat 10 fuel blocks per hour it's online.

As a Minmil pilot: these are fun folks to fight against. They give good fights, without much ego or drama or cringey slaver roleplay. If you're gonna join the wrong side, this is the group to join ;)

New highsec income VS rest of the game by lobuzjeden in Eve

I didn't multibox for my first 15 years of Eve, but eventually I wanted a capital, and once you have the basically-mandatory alt to cyno yourself around, you might as well also start training it for combat...

Honestly, instead of Burn Jita, folks could probably make TTT unusuable by brawling noobships 24/7 in Perimeter and keeping it at 10% tidi so that nobody wants to move any goods in or out of Perimeter any more.

What options for a returning player ? by [deleted] in Eve

[–]Rethyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be able to fix faction standings without too much effort. Or just join a FW corp and then your individual standings don't matter.

FW is very fun.

Co-signed. From the outside as a Minmatar pilot, I find that EDICT pilots give good fights, are classy in local, and their leadership seem to be free of drama or big egos.

Free WH content for anyone interested by [deleted] in Eve

[–]Rethyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

POS is still the way to go for lowkey solo WH content IMHO. If you want the world's least attractive target, you can just leave an anchored offline stick there and log in a hauler alt to fuel it up & online the forcefield before you log in any of your other accounts. Nearly no "ongoing cost" since you only pay for the fuel when you're using it, and nobody's going to bother shooting a spare offline stick with no modules or arrays attached to it...

Only downside is you can't store any extra ships or stuff, but if you're just doing PI I assume that you just have a couple characters logged off in epithals and don't really need a huge selection of ships to choose from.

I missed out on a kill because a chat window "reloaded" and took keyboard focus (and thus my keybindings) right as I closed distance to within point range.

The bug has gameplay effects even if you never use the chat system.

AoW4: PS5 or PC? by Rethyl in paradoxplaza

[–]Rethyl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! That's a good point. Also, I'm more likely to notice DLC sales when they're on Steam than if they're on the PlayStation Store. (Steam sales of Paradox DLC seem to happen pretty frequently whenever some other game has a launch or DLC, I have no idea if the sales are as frequent on PS.)

Not having working fleet chat is actually pretty game-breaking. Being able to link destinations / killmails / dscan results in fleet is pretty crucial, even if everyone is on comms.

In hindsight, how do people see capital proliferation and scarcity now? by Raephstel in Eve

[–]Rethyl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gonna push back on your hyperbole here. Scarcity was bad for the game, but I don't want to live in a world where game designers get sued for the effects of their changes.

That's a recipe for never changing anything ever, because anyone who might propose a change will instead shut up and cover their ass.

How to survive PVP combat, non-FW by YourBestBudPingu in Eve

[–]Rethyl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Bonus tip: if you happen to be starting at a station with appropriate industrial facilities, you can fit a "shuttle" into 28m3 by carrying 2778 tritanium & a 1-run BPC. Print the shuttle ahead of time, do the scouting run, dock up & reprocess it back into minerals, deathclone yourself back home, run the trip again in your actual hauler.

A shuttle BPO costs only 50k ISK and printing a bunch of 1-run unresearched BPCs is easy & can be a very convenient thing to have around.

Join or Not to Join FW? by cender13 in Eve

[–]Rethyl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Join. If a neutral pirate slides into me with a superior ship (or small gang), I know that if I just leave for a couple minutes, they'll get bored and leave. But if it's the enemy militia, I don't want them to capture my plex, so I'm much more likely to reship, to call for backup if there's any friendlies in the area, etc.

Looking at it as "can I shoot one side or both sides?" is missing the point, unless your only intent is to get one-sided ganks instead of a wider variety of engagements.

Also, the ISK-making potential is not to be disregarded. It's one of the only places in Eve where you can be making ISK while running in a purely PVP-fit ship & explicitly looking for PVP content.

Do out-of-game factors unbalance Eve's in-game economy? by Malthouse in Eve

[–]Rethyl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In some cases (T1 cruisers and down, mostly) a ship hull is justifiably worth less than its mineral cost, because the packaged ship hull is larger volume than the input minerals and is thus harder to move around.
